Almost exactly two months since The Bachelor finale that saw Matt Agnew pick Chelsie McLeod over Abbie Chatfield, Matt and Chelsie have announced their break up on Instagram. As is always the case with social media, despite Chelsie asking people to “please remember to be kind online” that is the exact opposite of what people have done.
Ever since the news broke, people have been very publicly tagging Abbie in the posts and wondering aloud whether or not she had something to do with the split. And if they haven’t been wondering, they’ve been telling her that she has a chance now. Basically just acting as if there aren’t actual people with feelings attached to these accounts.
In classic Abbie style, she hasn’t been shy about addressing what people are saying about her.
“Hello everyone, I’ve been tagged in a lot of comments this morning on posts about Matt and Chelsie’s relationship ending,” she wrote in an Instagram story.
“Some of you are saying it’s ‘my shot,’ others are saying that he’s done a Blake Garvey. None of this is fair on Chelsie, Matt or me. My contact with Matt ended when I walked away from him at the finale, and I am good friends with Chelsie and love her very much.”
Dragging women into another couple’s break up is nothing new in the entertainment world, but it’s not always addressed. Since the season ended, Abbie has been speaking out about the body shaming and slut shaming she’s copped from people in the comment sections of almost every corner of the internet. Her takedowns have been great to see, but it’s sad that she has to make these statements in the first place.
I will never understand people’s need to be awful over social media, and Abbie Chatfield has been the subject of it more than most. Stop bringing her into Matt and Chelsie’s break up, and internet drama in general. She’s absolutely had enough of it.
