With the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing and showing few signs of slowing down, it’s been tough for some people to stay positive during these dark times, despite some valiant but tone-deaf attempts from celebrities. However, a couple has somehow managed to set a new benchmark in “making a good thing out of something bad” by naming their newborn baby twins after the coronavirus pandemic. Seriously.

According to The New Indian Express, a couple in Raipur, India, had safely given birth to a pair of twins during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and decided to name the newborn bubs Covid and Corona. That’s… imaginative.
Now before you judge too much on this, there is some method to this madness. The couple say that they chose to name their baby twins after the coronavirus as a reminder of the hardships they had to overcome in welcoming the two newborns into the world.
In addition to making their day memorable, the couple’s odd naming decision also stems from an attempt to bring a positive spin on the coronavirus pandemic as the noted that “the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits” hence why their newborn babies got named Covid and Corona instead of, say, Apple or Gravity.
Giving your baby a name based off the biggest TV show at the time is a bit different than naming them about a worldwide health crisis like the coronavirus pandemic, but hey, who are we to judge. Still, it sounds like the parents have left some wriggle room just in case they change their minds later as they said they named their babies Covid and Corona “for now.” Clever loophole they gave themselves there.
It’s honestly hard to fault that reasoning as we all need a big of light during these dark times and naming your babies after the coronavirus is certainly one way of bringing levity for everyone.
