Pete Davidson May Play An Idiot, But He's Tired Of SNL Treating Him As One

Reaping what he's sown.

Pete Davidson made his mark on Saturday Night Live by playing somewhat dimwitted characters and over the course of his six-year tenure on the renowned sketch show, he’s expanded his SNL repertoire to include *checks notes* uh, more dimwitted characters, with a dash of TMI over whether he’s dating Ariana Grande, Kaia Gerber or whichever young brunette who’s caught his eye.

Needless to say that SNL treats ol’ Pete Davidson as a bit of a lovable idiot and after years of the same old schtick, it sounds like he’s sick of it to the point where “SNL departure” is coming into view.

Speaking of idiots, the GOAT team unpack the ridiculous feud between Gigi Hadid and renowned internet idiot Jake Paul on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

Chatting to Charlamagne Tha God, Pete says a departure from SNL is looking more and more likely due to the way the show treats him like an idiot, saying how the lines between his real personality and his onscreen persona are becoming increasingly blurred by the show’s writers and he’s essentially being shoehorned into being a bit of a moron.

“I have a lot of conversations with people, because it’s a hard thing to do You don’t ever want to pull the trigger too early. Everybody’s always been like, ‘You’ll know when you know, and it’ll be alright.’ I personally think I should be done with that show because they make fun of me on it.

“I literally was just like, ‘Picture what it’s like to be made fun of and then cut to immediately.’ They think I’m f***ing dumb. I’m literally painted out to be this big dumb idiot.”

While Pete says he’s grateful for the opportunity SNL creator Lorne Michaels gave him, he says that the environment is incredibly “cutthroat” and that his departure from the show may not be far away as he’s “outgrown” it by this point in his career.

It’s a little sad that Pete isn’t in on all the self-deprecating jokes like we all thought he was and he does have a point there as SNL is notoriously prone to rehash the same jokes over and over again. At the same time though, Pete hasn’t really shown anything special beyond his ability to play “Pete Davidson” despite his improving sketch skills.

It was refreshing at first, but seeing “Pete Davidson” come up on Weekend Update every week to talk about Ariana Grande or Kaia Gerber (or whoever he’s dating now) like a stoned frat boy is getting quite old at this point.

With other projects like a Netflix stand-up special (which audiences had to sign a ridiculous NDA to even attend) and a Judd Apatow-directed film which he co-wrote and plays the lead role on his busy plate, perhaps we’re inching ever closer to the date when Pete Davidson makes his SNL departure official.
