A Definitive List Of All The Best Songs Made Popular By TikTok

Now that’s what I call memes.

Honestly, I can’t remember a time before TikTok. Now that we’re all bored as hell in COVID-19 isolation, we’re spending a lot more time on technology. We’re FaceTiming more, we’re streaming more, we’re even downloading more apps. One of these apps is TikTok.

Speaking of viral things, we spoke about the MasterChef season premiere on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

TikTok is the new social media platform that shot up out of nowhere and is giving us all of the best content right now. There are skits, there are challenges but most importantly, there are the dances. Every now and then, there’s a new dance to be learnt to a song you’ve probably never heard of. So, in the interest of being concise, here are all the best songs made popular by TikTok.

‘Say So’ – Doja Cat

It’s the biggest song in the world right now and for one reason; TikTok. Yep, before this slick, disco track took over the radio waves, it was making even bigger waves on the Internet. The dance was so popular that Ms Doja Cat had no choice but to recreate those dance moves for the official music video. Life imitates art we suppose!

‘Savage’ – Megan Thee Stallion

The latest song to take over the app is from none other than Megan Thee Stallion. She may have been snubbed by the Grammys, but we certainly don’t think she cares anymore. The chorus of this incredibly catchy tune is in all of our heads, thanks to this fierce dance challenge. It’s even been replicated by Jessica Alba! C’mon Honey sequel!

‘Glitter’ & ‘Supalonely’- BENEE

BENEE is a 20-year-old artist from New Zealand. She doesn’t even have an album out and yet, she’s one of the biggest artists in the world right now. Funnily enough, dances have been made for two of her songs, ‘Glitter’ and more recently, ‘Supalonely’, which features Gus Dapperton. The popularity of these dance moves has directly correlated to her popularity on streaming services, with those two songs plus ‘Soaked’ raking in over 164 million streams on Spotify altogether. Not bad BENEE, not bad.

The Box’ – Roddy Ricch

2020 kicked off with one of the tightest races for the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. While Justin Bieber’s single ‘Yummy’ was so close, it was beaten by ‘The Box’ by rapper Roddy Ricch. Why? Well, because of TikTok of course. This mesmerising tune had an equally as mesmerising dance to go with it. We love to see it!

‘OUT WEST’ – JACKBOYS

The Jackboys are made up of Travis Scott, Sheck Wes, Don Toliver, Luxury Tax, and Scott’s DJ Chase B. And while there’s so much star power in this collective, the main reason for this song’s success is TikTok. This banger had a dance to go along with it, which was super easy to learn

‘Absolutely Anything’ – CG5

You probably won’t recognise this song by its name. And hell, if you played this song from the beginning, you probably wouldn’t recognise it. But, you would definitely recognise this tune from about 1:22 onwards, you know, where the lyrics go “I used to be so beautiful, now look at me.” Yeah. This was one of the early trends to go viral on TikTok and for good reason!

Also, it wouldn’t be an accurate list if we didn’t mention Dua Lipa’s ‘Don’t Start Now’ and The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’. While these songs didn’t blow up because of TikTok, their cultural relevance is definitely owed to the app. It’s hard to log onto any ‘For You’ page without seeing a dance cover of these tunes.
