A Definitive List Of All The Best Songs Made Popular By TikTok

Now that’s what I call memes.

Honestly, I can’t remember a time before TikTok. Now that we’re all bored as hell in COVID-19 isolation, we’re spending a lot more time on technology. We’re FaceTiming more, we’re streaming more, we’re even downloading more apps. One of these apps is TikTok.

Speaking of viral things, we spoke about the MasterChef season premiere on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

TikTok is the new social media platform that shot up out of nowhere and is giving us all of the best content right now. There are skits, there are challenges but most importantly, there are the dances. Every now and then, there’s a new dance to be learnt to a song you’ve probably never heard of. So, in the interest of being concise, here are all the best songs made popular by TikTok.

‘Say So’ – Doja Cat

It’s the biggest song in the world right now and for one reason; TikTok. Yep, before this slick, disco track took over the radio waves, it was making even bigger waves on the Internet. The dance was so popular that Ms Doja Cat had no choice but to recreate those dance moves for the official music video. Life imitates art we suppose!

‘Savage’ – Megan Thee Stallion

The latest song to take over the app is from none other than Megan Thee Stallion. She may have been snubbed by the Grammys, but we certainly don’t think she cares anymore. The chorus of this incredibly catchy tune is in all of our heads, thanks to this fierce dance challenge. It’s even been replicated by Jessica Alba! C’mon Honey sequel!

‘Glitter’ & ‘Supalonely’- BENEE

BENEE is a 20-year-old artist from New Zealand. She doesn’t even have an album out and yet, she’s one of the biggest artists in the world right now. Funnily enough, dances have been made for two of her songs, ‘Glitter’ and more recently, ‘Supalonely’, which features Gus Dapperton. The popularity of these dance moves has directly correlated to her popularity on streaming services, with those two songs plus ‘Soaked’ raking in over 164 million streams on Spotify altogether. Not bad BENEE, not bad.

The Box’ – Roddy Ricch

2020 kicked off with one of the tightest races for the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. While Justin Bieber’s single ‘Yummy’ was so close, it was beaten by ‘The Box’ by rapper Roddy Ricch. Why? Well, because of TikTok of course. This mesmerising tune had an equally as mesmerising dance to go with it. We love to see it!

‘OUT WEST’ – JACKBOYS

The Jackboys are made up of Travis Scott, Sheck Wes, Don Toliver, Luxury Tax, and Scott’s DJ Chase B. And while there’s so much star power in this collective, the main reason for this song’s success is TikTok. This banger had a dance to go along with it, which was super easy to learn

‘Absolutely Anything’ – CG5

You probably won’t recognise this song by its name. And hell, if you played this song from the beginning, you probably wouldn’t recognise it. But, you would definitely recognise this tune from about 1:22 onwards, you know, where the lyrics go “I used to be so beautiful, now look at me.” Yeah. This was one of the early trends to go viral on TikTok and for good reason!

Also, it wouldn’t be an accurate list if we didn’t mention Dua Lipa’s ‘Don’t Start Now’ and The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’. While these songs didn’t blow up because of TikTok, their cultural relevance is definitely owed to the app. It’s hard to log onto any ‘For You’ page without seeing a dance cover of these tunes.

Why Did We Expect Child Stars Demi Lovato And Selena Gomez To Stay Friends?

They were once one and the same.

Despite appearing in numerous projects together in the early stages of their careers, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are no longer friends. But, at the end of the day, we can’t really be surprised.

For more on nostalgic tv, we spoke about the O.G. MasterChef contestants on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez go way back. From 2002 to 2004, the two of them were starred in ‘Barney & Friends’ before becoming teen icons on the Disney Channel.

Here, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez were each stars of their own shows, ‘Sonny With A Chance’ and ‘Wizards Of Waverly Place’ respectively, but were BFF’s in the tabloids. They uploaded YouTube videos together, they appeared in movies together and they even put out songs together.

But, since the Disney Channel days, we haven’t seen Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez together in the spotlight, and now we know why. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Demi Lovato revealed that the two are “not friends” anymore.

In January, Demi Lovato gave a powerful performance at the Grammy Awards that shed light on her addiction struggles. At the time, Selena Gomez publicly commented on her performance, taking to her Instagram story to say, “I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational and DESERVED this moment was. Demi, I’m so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery.” Now, Demi has spoken on that incident.

Demi told Harper’s Bazaar, “When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them. But I’m not friends with her, so (the post) felt …,” she said, stopping herself, “I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.”

So there you have it, Demi Lovato isn’t close with Selena Gomez anymore. In fact, the only Disney Channel star that Demi Lovato revealed she’s close to is Miley Cyrus. In the same interview, Lovato said, “(Miley Cyrus is) awesome, and I love her to death and always will, always have. But I think she’s kind of the only one from that era that I still stay in touch with.” Notably, Demi Lovato shook her head when asked if she is still in contact with the Jonas Brothers.

But, at the end of the day, are we really surprised that Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have drifted apart? How many of you can honestly say you’re still in touch with your childhood besties? I know it’s probably breaking our adolescent and nostalgic hearts to see these two have drifted but at the end of the day, that’s a pretty normal thing for friends to do.

Would This Gossip Girl Meme Have Even Happened Without Iso?

Is Dan behind this too?

There is nothing on the internet, right now, that is funnier than this Gossip Girl meme.

Me whenever I see one of these memes.

The humour is stupid and the quality is low, all-in-all, it’s the perfect meme that sums up exactly how we’re all feeling in COVID-19 isolation.

For more on your favourite nostalgic tv shows, make sure you check out our MasterChef breakdown on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

The meme format is so simple, it’s genius. The meme follows a back-and-forth interaction with Gossip Girl protagonist characters, Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf.

Here, Serena asks Blair a question and Blair can only reply with the Gossip Girl logo rearranged to spell different words. It’s shockingly stupid and yet, we love to see it.

The meme started out with a genius rearrangement of the Gossip Girl logo.

But then, things started to get a little more strange.

At one point, intertextuality even got involved.

Then the ‘girl’ from ‘Gossip Girl’ seemingly left the meme chat.

And now, the Gossip Girl meme has officially inverted on itself.

Memes often tend to be products of their time and reflections of the zeitgeist. As a result, this popularisation of this meme kind of makes perfect sense. A Gossip Girl reboot has been talked about, nostalgia is all anyone seems to connect to nowadays and we’re all delirious from being indoors that stupid humour is right up our alley.

Ever since we popularised the “Three words, eight letters… Say it and I’m yours,” meme, we’ve been desperate for another Gossip Girl induced laugh. Thank God we found this one!

For more hot takes on Gossip Girl, we wrote an article on how all the Upper East Siders would be Republicans, check it out here.
