The Simpsons Has A ‘Predict’ Category On Disney+, So That's Iso Sorted

Prepare to have your mind blown.

For the past 30 years, we haven’t been able to stop talking about The Simpsons. Sure, you could attest this to their brilliant writing team, their special guest stars or their memorable portrayal of Australia, but the main reason we love The Simpsons would have to be their ability to predict the future. Yep, you heard correctly.

Speaking of tv, make sure you check out our MasterChef breakdown on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

Disney+ are seemingly aware of this fact because they have now curated a playlist of Simpsons episodes that feature accurate depictions of the future. Like seriously, we have to assume Matt Groening had a time travel machine or something… Anyway, without further ado, take a look at our favourite times The Simpsons predicted the future.

The Simpsons Predicts The Trump Presidency

Yep, it’s true. Shockingly, The Simpsons predicted the presidency of President Trump in a throwaway joke on the 2000 episode ‘Bart To The Future’. Funnily enough, The Simpsons actually responded to their prediction in the show. Four days after Trump became President in America, Bart writes “Being right sucks” as the chalkboard gag in the show’s opening credits. Having said that, many thought that The Simpsons also predicted Trump wanting to buy Greenland, sadly that isn’t true.

The Simpsons Predicts Coronavirus

In the 1993 Simpsons episode, ‘Marge In Chains’, Springfield is hit with the “Osaka Flu,” which causes the town and the Simpsons family to fall ill. Technically, the coronavirus originated from China, and not Japan, but we think they got it pretty close. Not to mention, there was even a reference to Kobe Bryant’s death in this episode, which you can read about here.

The Simpsons Predicts Faulty Voting Machines

In 2008, The Simpsons released an episode showing Homer trying to vote for Barack Obama in the US general election, but a machine kept changing his vote despite numerous attempts. Four years later, a voting machine in America had to be removed after it kept changing people’s votes for Obama to ones for his Republican rival. Life imitating art? Or is this The Simpsons predicting the future…

The Simpsons Predicts Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl Performance

In 2012, Lady Gaga performed for the town of Springfield hanging in midair. Five years later, she jumped off of the roof of the Super Bowl stadium, flying down to her podium. Do you think The Simpsons predicted the future? Or was Lady Gaga such a Simpsons fan, she decided to replicate her appearance in the Houston NRG Stadium? Who knows!

If you want to watch these moments happen in actual episodes, you can head to Disney+, where they have collated all of this for you. Consider our COVID-19 isolation sorted.
