Taylor Swift Is Dealing With Even More ‘Shameless Greed’ Over Her Music

Her old label is releasing a new album tonight.

Looks like Taylor Swift still has some ‘Bad Blood’ with her former record label. In a new statement shared to social media, Taylor Swift has declared that her old label, Big Machine, and its owner Scooter Braun are going to release an unreleased album of Swift’s and (to no one’s surprise), she’s pissed.

If you’re not well-aware of the situation, here’s a little recap. Scooter Braun (and his company Ithaca Holdings) purchased Taylor Swift’s former label Big Machine, allowing him the rights to her first six albums. Turns out, he owns a little bit more than we thought. Taylor Swift has been super critical of Scooter Braun since this happened, accusing him of “incessant, manipulative bullying.”  Which brings us to today’s events.

We spoke about the rivalry between Scooter Braun and Taylor Swift on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

In Taylor Swift’s Instagram story, she claims that a live album of 2008 performances will become available to the public via digital download and streaming services, without her blessing. According to Billboard, the album will feature live vocals from a radio show performance. As it has already been released in certain areas, we know the album is called Live From Clear Channel 2008.

Turns out, Taylor Swift didn’t even get a heads up about this sly release and she only found out about it because of her attentive fans. In the statement, she said:

“Hey guys, I want to thank my fans for making me aware that my former record label is putting out an ‘album’ of live performances of mine tonight. This recording is from a 2008 radio show performance I did when I was 18. Big Machine has listed the date as a 2017 release but they’re actually releasing it tonight at midnight.”

“I’m always honest with you guys about this stuff so I just wanted to tell you that this release is not approved by me. It looks to me like Scooter Braun and his financial backers, 23 Capital, Alex Soros and the Soros family, and the Carlyle Group have seen the latest balance sheets and realized that paying $330 MILLION for my music wasn’t exactly a wise choice and they need money.”

“In my opinion… just another case of shameless greed in the time of coronavirus. So tasteless, but very transparent.”

Taylor Swift has vowed to re-record her first 6 albums as a result of not owning them. However, there is no date set for when this will happen.
