'Tangled' Apparently Not Only Predicted Coronavirus, It Showed Us Quarantine Life

It certainly deepens Mother Gothel's motivations.

It’s sort of hard to watch something these days and not think how some small detail may have been an allusion to the coronavirus pandemic we’re now facing. First people thought The Simpsons did it, then some thought Space Jam did it, and now there are those who are convinced that Tangled not only predicted the coronavirus but also showed us a glimpse into quarantine life.

Speaking of coronavirus quarantine, the GOAT team talk about staying creative while in lockdown on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

Since self-isolation has left people scrambling for things to do to pass the time, rewatching movies has become the norm and those who decided to rewatch Tangled couldn’t help but notice the similarities between Rapunzel and the current coronavirus quarantine situation they’re in.

Tangled sees Rapunzel be taken from her kingdom by Mother Gothel when she was a baby and be locked up in a tower for about 18 years. While people are going stir-crazy over being in coronavirus self-quarantine for a few weeks, Tangled shows Rapunzel living her best life despite being in lockdown for almost her entire life.

Seeing Rapunzel enjoying life to the fullest while in self-isolation not only made people realise what a badarse she is, it made them realise that their situation isn’t so bad. A few weeks is nothing compared to 18 years.

Hell, Rapunzel even found the love of her life while in quarantine so perhaps there’s hope for all us single people out there during this coronavirus pandemic after all.

But the thing that really sold the whole Tangled/coronavirus link to people was the name of Rapaunzel’s kingdom, which if you can’t remember was called *checks notes* Corona.

Okay, so Tangled depicted Rapunzel being taken as a baby and put into self-isolation far away from the kingdom of Corona for her own “safety.” Huh, there you go.

Maybe Mother Gothel had the right idea after all and was Tangled‘s real hero in putting Rapunzel into quarantine far away from the kingdom of Corona.

But as I’ve said before with the Simpsons and Space Jam coronavirus “predictions,” the whole Rapunzel/lockdown/Kingdom of Corona stuff is all just coincidence and there’s simply no way Tangled and Disney could’ve predicted the coronavirus self-quarantine life we’re all living in.

Now apropos of nothing, I’m going to rewatch every single Disney animated film for, uh, research and see if there were details I missed out on during my first watch.
