Boxing Day Is Better Than Christmas Day, I’ll Fight You On It

The Most Wonderful Time Of Year Comes A Day After You Expect

Christmas Day is cancelled.

You heard me.

After all those months of trying to decorate the prettiest Christmas tree, shopping for the perfect Secret Santa gift and embarking on the most intense food prep of your entire life, the 25th of December somehow always falls flat. But, don’t let that ruin your end-of-year holiday, because life likes to save the best for last. Well, sixth last.

Introducing Boxing Day, Christmas Day’s younger, cooler, sexier friend! Boxing Day trumps its predecessor by a long shot, allow me to explain why.

Firstly, it’s the day to relax. Don’t be fooled, Christmas Day is a lot more stressful than it is jolly. From dealing with conservative family members to making sure the ham is baked perfectly, it’s safe to say that Christmas Day is one of the most anxiety-inducing days of the year. But Boxing Day? You’ve got nowhere to be. You can sleep in, chill out, nap all while playing with the presents you got yesterday!

Time to play with those new undies and socks!

Secondly, we have to talk about the movies. If the Aussie heat is too hot to handle this Holiday season, there’s nothing like a trip to the air-conditioned cinema to cool you down. Not to mention, Boxing Day always has the best film releases of the year. As for this year? It’s going to be difficult choosing between Jojo Rabbit and Frozen 2

You can have a Winter Wonderland in Australia if you want to!

Thirdly, the sales. Again, if you need to escape the global-warming-induced heat, then Boxing Day have you covered with those incredible shopping-centre sales! Shop ‘til you drop with the sales you wish were on when you were buying presents!

Did you get money for Christmas? Time to spend it!

Also, if you’re into sport, Boxing Day is such an eventful day for you. There’s not only the Boxing Day Test Cricket but the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Woah! What a bat!

Lastly, we need to talk about leftovers. Let’s be real; leftovers always taste so much better than the originals. We don’t know why or how, but what we do know is that baked ham is much nicer when it’s the second time around.

Me, warming up a meal that is better than yesterdays!

So next time you stress about that massive family gathering on Christmas Day, try and calm yourself down by thinking about Boxing Day, the far superior day.
