Kevin Feige Reveals Another Character Was Meant To Be Digitally Added To Tony Stark's Funeral

The reasoning behind it makes total sense.

With the release of Avengers: Endgame to DVD and Blu-ray this month we’re finding out more and more about the movie months after it first came out. This time, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has revealed more about Tony Stark’s funeral scene and the character that was going to be digitally added in.

During a Q&A with Empire, Feige revealed Ant-Man’s teenage daughter Cassie Lang was going to be digitally inserted into the funeral.

The funeral scene is one of the few scenes where you see so many MCU characters together in one place and with so many people there we can understand why they might consider putting Cassie into the scene.

Feige said, “We did at one point toy with putting Cassie there.”

“At one point we thought of digitally adding her so it’s the family, but we thought, ‘This is the heroes celebrating the other heroes and the loss of Tony’, so we didn’t do it. Aside from Smart Hulk and Rocket and Groot, everybody’s actually standing there.”

It makes sense, not that we would have really questioned it if Cassie was there, but it does potentially open the conversation about why other characters weren’t there if she was included in the scene.

He also revealed that he and co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo are actually in that scene.

“I was on the balcony of that house… In that shot, as you see in the movie, right inside the cabin, was video village where I was sitting with [executive producer] Trinh Tran and Joe and Anthony.”

Feige also spoke about the possibility of a huge box-set including all 23 films of the Infinity Saga, saying if they do it, they’ll also include the really bad scenes they’re not exactly proud of.

“If we do a big, giant Infinity Saga box set, we might include – I’m assuming if you’re going to spend the money to buy a box set with everything in it, you’re a fan. And it’ll take more than a couple of really, really bad scenes to turn you.”

The most recent deleted scene we were gifted was right after Tony’s death where the Avengers were kneeling at the battlefield.

“I like sharing those scenes. And when we have something like that that we love, and which was not an easy decision to cut out but was the best decision for the movie, it’s a great avenue to say, ‘We’ll put it out there.’ It’s not like no-one will ever see it.

“There are things that we think nobody should ever see. And I think we’ve just recently been discussing that now we can start to show some of our less proud moments.”

As a fan himself, Feige says he loves seeing the stuff that didn’t quite work in a film.

“There’s stuff that still pops up from the Star Wars trilogy occasionally – Tosche Station for instance,” he explains.

“That is not great, it certainly shouldn’t be in the movie, but I love seeing it. I love that they shot it and it exists and we get to see it. So usually we love putting that stuff out there. There’s some things that we’ve been too humiliated to show, but I think we’ll bring out soon enough.”
