Tom Holland's Chilling New Role Is The Complete Opposite Of Spider-Man

Couldn't be more different.

Last month, we shared a Tom Holland update revealing he’d shaved his head for a new role in crime drama Cherry.

Fans took to social media to share their heartbreak over Holland’s haircut, and while it was certainly a shock to the system, a new photo from the set of Cherry reveals fans might be in for an even bigger shock when the movie is released.

Holland shared a photo from set and it’s pretty clear his new character is the exact opposite of Spider-Man.

He captioned the snap, “No alarms. I’m a wanted man. They’ll kill me…”

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are directing Cherry, which is an adaptation of the infamous semi-autobiographical novel by Nico Walker.

Walker sold the book while serving a prison sentence for committing the acts that led him to write the book.

Like Walker, Cherry’s unnamed protagonist (Holland) served as an Army medic in Iraq, but later returned home from war with undiagnosed PTSD and developed an opioid addiction. This lead to a life of crime in order to fuel his habit, including robbing banks.

Walker was caught and convicted in 2011 and is scheduled to be released in 2020, just in time to see his book become a film.

According to Variety, Holland was an easy choice for the Russo brothers for the lead role as they’d already worked with the young actor multiple times.

Walker spoke to The Guardian about the book and how much really happened to him, saying, “On a very basic level, it isn’t what happened to me.”

“The military parts are the ones that most closely mirror my experience. But even then, there’s a lot that’s quite different,” he added.

It’ll be very strange to see Holland in the film as someone so different from Spider-Man, but it’ll no doubt be a great opportunity for him to show off his acting skills in a darker role.
