Steve Carell Teased An Office Crossover With It's Always Sunny And Now The Joke Needs To Happen

We demand that It's Always Sunny In Scranton become an actual thing.

The Office may have finished its run years ago but there are still many fans clamouring for a continuation of some sort. The cast have all been good sports about it and have even played along for laughs, but we’re now getting into some serious territory because Steve Carell just dropped an Office revival joke so good that it simply must happen.

It all began when Rob McElhenney, creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, posted an Instagram video himself, Danny DeVito and Charlie Day at the set where The Office was filmed.

Apparently this is Dunder Mifflin, I guess, where they shot The Office,” he taunted in video. “I wasn’t one hundred percent sure of that, but they’re gone now, they’re off the air, and now you got …

Sensing that it was on like Donkey Kong, Carell responded with the fire of a thousand suns on Twitter. And by that I mean in a very level-headed way that not only tried to broker peace but also teased a crossover between The Office and IASIP called It’s Always Sunny In Scranton.

At this point the joke quickly built up steam because McElhenney poured fuel on the fire by posting an incredibly enthusiastic reply on Instagram, and he opened the bidding at a mere $500 million to a bunch of networks and streaming services who might be interested in the “idea”.

Now a crossover between IASIP and The Office is about as realistic as seeing a purple flying elephant, but seeing how far the joke went – and how enthusiastic fans got – the only reasonable punchline to this gag is to actually do it properly. Carell and McElhenney have already committed this much to the joke so they might as well go all the way.

And hey, if ISAIP was able to pull off that brilliant recreation of Seinfeld‘s greatest scene, perhaps an Office crossover or even a parody isn’t too farfetched of an idea.

So, wanna throw some support behind this crossover, Netflix, Stan, or Disney?
