James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has a huge cast playing a bunch of mysterious roles – so mysterious, in fact, that even the actors don’t know who everyone’s playing!
Gunn took to Instagram in September to reveal the cast of the film included people like Taika Waititi, Idris Elba, John Cena, Nathan Fillion, Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, and Storm Reid, as well as a bunch of people returning to the sequel like Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis.
Waititi has been a busy man with a lot of projects in the pipeline including Jojo Rabbit, Next Goal Wins, Thor: Love and Thunder and The Suicide Squad, in which he plays an unknown character.
Speaking with Wired, Waititi said that he knows he’s in The Suicide Squad, but that’s about it.
“We’re mates and James said, ‘Come and do this thing,'” he says. “James is brilliant, and it’s just such a crazy big list of people. But I have no idea what any of them are doing.”
That’s all we get?! Either Waititi legitimately doesn’t know what’s going on in the film or he’s very good at avoiding spoilers.
Some fans were left disappointed when the cast announcement didn’t include Jared Leto as the Joker, Gunn explained why that was in an Instagram Q&A.
He said, “No one but me and a few others know all the characters in the movie, but if the Joker isn’t in the film, I don’t think it would be strange as he isn’t a part of the Suicide Squad in the comics.”
This doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t make a cameo, but we’re not holding our breath for it.
