Daisy Ridley's Cheeky Dark Rey Hint Will Start A Huge Star Wars Fan Debate

She sort of explained it and we still wouldn't believe it.

The internet was given lots to talk about after Disney dropped a new Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker clip during its 2019 D23 event. While we here at GOAT were all over the clip’s Darth C-3PO tease, all everyone else wanted to talk about was Daisy Ridley doing her best Darth Rey impression.

Is she going to turn to the Dark Side because of Palpatine’s mind shenanigans? Was it all just a Dagobah-esque vision? Or perhaps that wasn’t Rey but a mere clone?

Sorry to break it to you, Rey, but you’re not actually you. Maybe.

Well if you take Daisy Ridley’s own word for it, what you saw in the Rise of Skywalker clip was legit and there’s no bells or whistles about it.

Speaking to Yahoo! Movies, Daisy was asked about the Darth Rey moment and her reply was quite interesting:

“I mean, the evidence is on the screen. Take that evidence as you will.

“But there’s no smoke without fire.”

Hmmm, how intriguing.

It’s not quite a yes but it’s not a no either so perhaps Darth Rey may actually be real, though it remains to be seen how well Rise of Skywalker pulls this off at this late stage of the game.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that Daisy is just throwing up false leads to protect any spoilers from leaking out from Disney HQ. Sure there’s no smoke without fire but you also need wood to make it and that stuff obscures the view pretty well.

But she wouldn’t do that… would she?

Damn it.

Regardless of whether there’s truth in Daisy’s cheeky tease, it’s sure to ignite a debate among the Star Wars fandom over whether Darth Rey is legit (or not) and whether it’s a sign that the film will be a satisfying conclusion like Breaking Bad or an epic flop like Game of Thrones.

Anyway, take all this with a mountain of salt for now since there’s no way in hell Disney will let the cat out of the bag this early. We’ll just have to wait and see if Daisy was actually telling the truth when Rise of Skywalker drops in December.
