Tom Holland's Already Spoiling Sony's Third Spider-Man Movie

"I’m really trying hard here."

When it was announced that Marvel and Sony ended their deal to share Spider-Man, thus guaranteeing Peter Parker wouldn’t appear in future MCU films, fans were seriously disappointed.

However, Tom Holland is doing his best to reassure fans Sony’s third Spider-Man flick will be even better than the first two.

While promoting his new animated film Onward at Disney’s D23 Expo over the weekend, Holland spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the future of Spidey.

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies… It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life.

“It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

While onstage at the expo, he also told the crowd, “Hey everyone, it’s been a crazy week but I want you all to know from the bottom of my heart that I love you 3000.”

Now, Holland is saying that the next Spider-Man film will be deeply connected to the previous movies and even hinted at one scene in particular that will be particularly important going forward.

According to Comic Book, the actor revealed during an appearance at Keystone Comic-Con, “I think the best work I’ve ever done in any film is the scene with [Jon] Favreau on the plane, and that’s such a pivotal moment for the three films that we’re making — well, two films we’ve made, one film we’re making. It’s… I don’t really know how to describe it without giving stuff away. I’m really trying hard here.”

In case you can’t quite remember the scene, it’s from Spider-Man: Far From Home where Peter is with Tony Stark’s friend and former bodyguard Happy Hogan on a Stark plane. Peter tells Happy he doesn’t think he has it in him to be the world’s next Iron Man, but Happy explains that Tony never would have made that sacrifice with Thanos “if he didn’t know that you were going to be here after he was gone”.

The pep-talk gets Peter inspired to use Stark technology and make his own Spidey suit to use in his fight against Mysterio.

Those who attended Keystone Comic-Con were asked not to ask Holland about the deal with one attendee saying the reason was because it “might mess up any contract discussions that will be announced within the next few days”. So, it seems like a new deal is entirely possible?

If Sony and Marvel can’t reach a deal, characters like Happy and Nick Fury will be unable to appear in future Spider-Man films and Sony will have to abandon any connections Spidey has with Iron Man and the Avengers.

Holland also told the crowd how the next film will be “special” but “very different”.

“It’s not the end of me playing Spider-Man. There’s definitely more to come. We sat down with some of our creatives. We pitched Spider-Man 3, which is going to be something very special, it’s going to be something very different.

“I’m just so grateful that Marvel changed my life and allowed my dreams to come true and Sony allowing me to continue living my dream. It’s a crazy week and it’s never been done before so we’ll see how it goes and it’ll be as amazing and as fun.”

Back in July, Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed early plans for a Far From Home follow-up to CinemaBlend, saying, “It’ll be fun to see Spidey back in his element, out of the shadow of Tony, out of the shadow of the other Avengers, as his own man now, as his own hero.”

“And yet now facing his own challenges that aren’t coming from Avengers fighting, like [Captain America: Civil War], or aliens coming, like [Avengers: Infinity War] or [Avengers: Endgame]. It’s all Peter focused and Peter based.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how Sony deals with the web-slinger if they’re unable to reach a new deal with Marvel.
