Spider-Man: Far From Home has finally received the Honest Trailer treatment and pokes fun at the Mysterio twist and the whole Spider-Man isn’t Iron Man thing.
Let’s cut the movie some slack first, it had to follow Avengers: Endgame, the biggest movie of all time, and not only that, but Tony Stark’s death and Peter Parker’s reaction to it was a huge part of the film – because of that, they couldn’t really advertise the film properly without spoiling Endgame.
Also, critics and audiences alike were left pretty happy with Far From Home, so there is that.
Now that the movie is available to buy, the people at Screen Junkies gave the film its own Honest Trailer and the film does take some deserved hits, especially for trying to trick us into thinking Mysterio was a good guy.
Considering the fact Mysterio is one of Spider-Man’s most famous comic book villains, most fans knew he was an untrustworthy character. And because of this, when Peter put his trust in Mysterio, only for it to be later revealed he was the film’s villain, it wasn’t really a huge surprise.
The Honest Trailer also pokes fun at just how much focus lies with Iron Man/Tony Stark, I mean, they even joke in the film that he chose the name EDITH because it stands for ‘even dead, I’m the hero’.
It does make Far From Home feel more like an MCU movie than a standalone Spidey flick, which would have made the Sony/Marvel split even more tragic had they gone through with it. How could Sony have resolved the issues in the second film if they couldn’t refer to 90 per cent of what happened?
Unsurprisingly, the trailer also makes fun of the Sony/Marvel split, which would have been devastating if it had gone through. But reports last week suggested the companies formed a new partnership because of Tom Holland himself.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter Tom “made multiple appeals to Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution, announced Sept. 27, for Marvel to produce a third Spider-Man movie for Sony, and for the character to appear in at least one additional Disney-Marvel film.”
Tom also reportedly “leaned on Rothman to re-engage with Disney,” and mentioned the fan support for Spider-Man to remain in the MCU.
So, yeah, he’s a real-life superhero.
