Taika Waititi Joins Ryan Reynolds' New Film, Giving Birth To The Next Great Comedy Duo

It's the Green Lantern reunion we've all been waiting for! Sort of.

2011’s Green Lantern was a monstrosity in so many ways it literally hurts to remember what went on in that movie. If we really – really – had to find something good to say about the film, it would be that it led to Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively getting married, and it gave us a look at how much comedic potential was wasted when they cast Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi as Reynolds’ BFF.

However it looks like all that promise will get a second chance because Waititi will be joining Reynolds’ new film, Free Guy.

Yup, we’re stoked too.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Waititi will be adding his talents to Free Guy‘s seriously stacked cast, which includes Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer and Stranger Things‘ resident dad Joe Keery.

Now as for whether Waititi will be Reynolds’ fellow quipping partner in the film, well, it remains to be seen because we have no idea who is playing who yet. Actually, we have almost no details about the movie at all.

All we know so far is that Free Guy is about a guy played by Reynolds who discovers he is actually a background character in a violent video game.

Not if it works, Wade!

The premise of Free Guy is completely bonkers but we’re suddenly super keen for it now that Reynolds and Waititi are teaming up again since there’s potential for the pair to be film’s next great comedic duo. At the very least we’re expecting an overabundance of quips and banter from the two. I mean, who doesn’t want to see Korg verbally spar with Deadpool?

We’re still about a year or two away at least from seeing anything from the film let alone a release date so we’ll just leave you with one of the few tolerable scenes from Green Lantern that happens to feature both Reynolds and Waititi.

We don’t want to be the only ones who had to put our poor memories through remembering Green Lantern after all.

There's A Gang Of New Pokemon In The Latest Detective Pikachu Trailer And Mewtwo Looks, Well, Weird

Snubble looks absolutely adorable though/Angry naked man springs to mind after seeing Mewtwo in this.

Hold onto your deerstalkers budding Pokemon trainers and wannabe detectives everywhere because a new Detective Pikachu trailer has dropped and it is filled with several new creatures we haven’t seen yet.

With only a few months left to go before the film drops on May 10, the marketing team are really pulling out the stops to ensure fans that Detective Pikachu will be the Pokemon-filled live-action adventure we’ve all been waiting for since Pokemon first came onto the scene in 1996.

Without revealing everything, some of the highlights include the first glimpse of Ludicolo, whose trademark exasperated face is perfectly rendered by CGI:

He didn’t see anything shocking, he just looks like that all the time.

There was a cameo from Snubbull, who looks characteristically grumpy and absolutely adorable:

Awww, I just wanna pinch his cheeks (and hope to Ho-oh I don’t get bitten)

Don’t blink or you’ll miss the super-angry Aipom:

Don’t feed the monkey.

And the creme de la creme of all Pokemon appearances, one that we wished for but didn’t expect to happen – MEWTWO!

And boy he looks… weird?

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… I actually have no idea what it is.

Yikes. This version of Mewtwo is up there on the “looks strange” scale just behind the creepy realistic Lickitung we saw a few weeks ago.

It kinda looks like the Mewtwo we all know and love, but it also looks like an angry naked man floating in the sky.

Ugh, it’s going to take some effort to wipe that image out of my head.  But hey, maybe it’s just me. (It probably is.)

One thing’s for sure, Ryan Reynolds is killing it as Detective Pikachu and he deserves all the gym badges in the world for his performance.

Take a gander at the trailer (and all the new creatures) here and make up your own minds on whether Mewtwo does or doesn’t look super weird.

Inconceivable! A New Version Of Deadpool 2 Is Coming In December And Will Apparently Pay Homage To The Princess Bride

As you wish.

After the release of Deadpool 2 and then the subsequent release of a longer, extended cut of the same movie, you’d think that there’s not much more to milk out of the Merc With A Mouth’s latest adventure. But like how Deadpool thinks David Bowie is still alive, you’d be wrong.

According to Deadline, apparently a new PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 coming on December 21 in the US. Considering how the movie wholeheartedly embraced its original R-rating by going all out on the violence, swearing, and gags, I can only imagine that a watered down PG-13 version would last only 10 minutes long and consist of Deadpool telling the story to a camera like a kindergarten teacher since that’s what the censors will only allow.

Turns out I may not be entirely wrong on that assumption because lead star Ryan Reynolds threw up a hint on what the new cut will be like with this new Instagram pic featuring himself and Fred Savage in an obvious homage to The Princess Bride.

First off: Inconceivable!

Secondly, using The Princess Bride‘s bedtime story narrative device to get around all the blood, gore, and other non PG-13 stuff in Deadpool 2 is absolutely hilarious and an ingenious way to introduce the younger generation to Deadpool and the forever quotable Princess Bride.

While we have no idea how much new footage there will be (or if there’s even new footage at all), I just hope there’s a scene of Deadpool reenacting this iconic scene:

This could either be the greatest idea or the worst idea ever, but I’m completely sold on it either way, so much so that I don’t even care that this new Princess Bride version of Deadpool 2 is bumping Alita: Battle Angel from its original December premiere date to February 14.

It’s not something I wished for and yet it looks like Westley kept his word after all.
