On the 3rd of May 2007, three-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann went missing from a resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal where she was staying with her family. After 13 years, there has just been a groundbreaking development in her case.
Footage shows police using an excavator to dig, as well as rakes and shovels to clear the land, however there has been no confirmation as to what authorities are specifically looking for.
“The operation is occurring in conjunction with our investigation into murder by the 43-year-old suspect,” a spokeswoman for state prosecutors in Braunschweig told German media.
Earlier last month, German authorities said they have “some evidence” that McCann is dead and announced they were investigating convicted sex offender Christian Brückner in connection with her disappearance.
Brücker is currently serving a seven-prison sentence for a sex crime and according to reports had a “vile and disgusting” shack about 3km from where the McCann family was staying in Praia da Luz.
Speaking of Maddie McCann, hear about the wild conspiracy theories connecting her to Ghislaine Maxwell below:
Reports also state that after McCann’s disappearance, investigators claimed to have found a mobile phone in the area around her hotel room which was allegedly used by Bruckner.
In an interview with 60 Minutes, Prosecutor Christian Wolters said, “we don’t have the body and no parts of the body, but we have enough evidence to say our suspect killed Madeleine McCann,” adding that authorities knew of her death about two years ago.
Whether police find anything in the garden they’re investigating, it’s heartbreaking to know that Madeleine McCann is presumed dead by authorities. We can only hope this development sheds light on other crimes committed against innocent children.
