Scott Morrison, An Early Hawaiian Holiday Isn't The Same As An 'Extra Plumbing Contract'

The tradies are going to love this one.

It’s probably safe to say that Scott Morrison isn’t having the greatest finish to 2019. After copping flack for bailing on a bushfire-ravaged Australia to go on a secret early holiday, he begrudgingly made his way back home after getting caught and made no secret at how unhappy he was to have his holiday cut short.

In an attempt to (again) explain his decision to go on a vacay while bushfires are still raging away, Scotty has weirdly decided to compare his Hawaiian holiday to “an extra plumbing job”.

Uhhh, what?

Chatting with Sunrise, Scott Morrison addressed his decision to go on a holiday to Hawaii, saying that he did it because it was for his family and he’d be neglecting his parental responsibilities if he didn’t go on holiday.

“We all make decisions, Monique. You do as a parent, I do as a parent, we all seek to balance our work-life responsibilities and we all try to get that right.

“We can all make better decisions on occasions, and I was pretty upfront with the Australian people about that yesterday.

“Whether it’s on a Friday afternoon, and you’re deciding to take that extra plumbing contract and you said you were gonna pick up the kids, or something at my level, these are things you juggle as a parent.”

Oh Scotty, Scotty, Scotty. Not sure if comparing your cushy Hawaiian holiday to hard-working plumbers is the best analogy you could’ve used. One is work that blue-collar workers do to make a living and the other is literally a holiday in Hawaii, which plumbers and the many, many firefighting volunteers (and all their families) would love to have.

They’re not the same thing, Scotty. And that’s not even noting how there was a conspicuous lack of “I’m sorry” in everything he’s said since he came back to Hawaii, and folks are noticing it.

No one is expecting you to *checks notes* “pick up a hose” and literally go fight the bushfires, Scotty, but a bit of actual leadership and human empathy during this crisis would be pretty nice, especially since ,you know, you’re the PM and it’s literally your job.

So yeah, not the greatest moment from ol’ mate Scott Morrison, who appears to be having a really hard time accepting responsibility. Probably not the “extra plumbing contract” he expected when he got back from Hawaii that’s for sure.
