Jacinda Ardern Gave A Very Public ‘Nope’ To Scott Morrison And We’re Here For It

"Call me back, please. Oh, it's Scott by the way. Scott Morrison. Anyway, bye."

You know those times when you’re in the middle of doing something really important and someone annoying interrupts you with a phone call? Well this exact situation unfolded on the world stage when Jacinda Ardern was interrupted by a phone call from none other than Scott Morrison.

Jacinda Ardern was holding a media press conference announcing the date for the next New Zealand general election, as well as updates on what is happening with the coronavirus outbreak and how it was affecting the country.

Midway through a question about whether New Zealand would match Australia‘s efforts in evacuating their citizens from Wuhan amid the coronavirus outbreak, the NZ PM was serendipitously interrupted by a phone call from Scotty.

Getting a phone call from a fellow world leader while in the middle of a press conference is a sticky situation to be put in, but Jacinda did the only thing she could do: she sent Scotty From Marketing straight to voicemail.

To be fair, sending Scott Morrison to voicemail was the best move Jacinda Ardern could’ve made in that situation. Talking about important world leader stuff while in the middle of a press conference isn’t exactly the ideal place or time to do it.

Jacinda Ardern and Scotty did end up having their chat after the NZ PM’s press conference and our PM talked about it during his own press conference, saying:

“I have just spoken just a few minutes ago to Prime Minister Ardern, and seeking to work closely with the New Zealand Government in supporting both their and our nationals who have been caught up in this [coronavirus] event.

“Right now, the Australian Government, through our embassy, is looking to deploy, working with the Chinese Government consular officials into Hubei Province, into Wuhan.”

But perhaps the best part of this little incident was Scott Morrison’s office confirming that it was indeed Scotty himself who tried calling Jacinda Ardern. Of all the things you’d think he would cop to, getting sent to voicemail by the NZ PM isn’t one you’d expect.

It’s a tough time for the world at the moment and we all need a bit of levity, so let’s give thanks to Scott Morrison for calling Jacinda Ardern and getting unceremoniously sent to voicemail. We all needed the laugh.
