When Greta Thunberg has finished her epic climate activism tour around the world she needs to host a workshop in the art of clapping back because her latest comeback is one for the history books.
Earlier this week, Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro called Thunberg a “brat” after she tweeted a link to a story about the murder of indigenous people in the country’s Maranhao state.
“Greta said that the Indians died because they were defending the Amazon,” Bolsonaro told journalists. “It’s impressive that the press is giving space to a brat like that.”
Instead of doing what I definitely would’ve done at 16 years old and ball my bloody eyes out, Thunberg took to Twitter to respond.
The teen activist changed her Twitter bio to read “Pirralha” – the Portugese word for “brat” – with no other explanation except for an invisible mic DROP.
It’s a good thing Thunberg is taking Bolsonaro’s comments with a grain of salt. The Brazilian president has made some rather controversial comments during his time as a the ‘Trump of the Tropics.’
A few weeks ago, Bolsonaro accused Leonardo DiCaprio of helping to cause the Amazon rainforest fires, and in August this year he suggested that people should “poop every other day” as a way to save the planet.
It’s not the first time Thunberg has been forced to clap back at angry old men. In September, Donald Trump responded to her moving speech at the United Nations Climate Summit by tweeting, “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”
In classic Greta Thunberg fashion, she took Trump’s quote and made her Twitter bio: “A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future.”
