The meme format is so simple, it’s genius. The meme follows a back-and-forth interaction with Gossip Girl protagonist characters, Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf.
Here, Serena asks Blair a question and Blair can only reply with the Gossip Girl logo rearranged to spell different words. It’s shockingly stupid and yet, we love to see it.
The meme started out with a genius rearrangement of the Gossip Girl logo.
But then, things started to get a little more strange.
At one point, intertextuality even got involved.
Then the ‘girl’ from ‘Gossip Girl’ seemingly left the meme chat.
And now, the Gossip Girl meme has officially inverted on itself.
Memes often tend to be products of their time and reflections of the zeitgeist. As a result, this popularisation of this meme kind of makes perfect sense. A Gossip Girl reboot has been talked about, nostalgia is all anyone seems to connect to nowadays and we’re all delirious from being indoors that stupid humour is right up our alley.
Ever since we popularised the “Three words, eight letters… Say it and I’m yours,” meme, we’ve been desperate for another Gossip Girl induced laugh. Thank God we found this one!
