Shane Dawson's Rant Has Us Asking Why Won't This YouTuber Drama Die?

"I'm done with the beauty world."

If the James Charles, Tati Westbrook and Jeffree Star saga taught us anything, it’s that the YoutTube beauty community is full of petty drama, lies and hate, and that’s why Shane Dawson wants out.

If you didn’t know, Shane Dawson is a YouTube legend. He’s been making YouTube videos for the past 15 years but he reached peak popularity just last year when he became intertwined in some beauty-guru drama. You know, the one that involved James Charles, Tati Westbrook and Jeffree Star and caused a social media shitstorm? That one.

We actually spoke about Jeffree Star on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

At the time, people didn’t think that Shane Dawson was involved with the James Charles, Tati Westbrook and Jeffree Star drama. But, it wasn’t until some time after, when Dawson alluded to it in the trailer for his “Conspiracy” documentary series, that he was criticised for not actually addressing it.

In the past week, this drama has been resurfaced because new information has popped up on Twitter. Shane Dawson supposedly knew that Tati Westbrook was going to post the video exposing James and didn’t give him the heads up, even though they’re friends. As a result, he’s taken to Twitter Notes-App style to clear the air as best as possible.

We spoke about the art of a Notes App apology on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

In the statement, Shane Dawson apologises for trying to hop on the James Charles, Tati Westbrook and Jeffree Star drama as a means of pulling in YouTube views, saying: “Putting drama in the trailer (for his documentary series) was something I regret more than anything in the world and I’m mad that I chose tea over my morals.”

But, the bulk of the Notes-App rant actually focused on the YouTuber defending himself from the accusations that he was heavily involved: “Did I ‘plan’ dramageddon? Are you SERIOUS? NO. Do people in the Youtube world come to me like a grandpa and ask me for advice? Yes. Is it easy for me to get wrapped up in something potentially toxic if I think someone I love is hurting or upset? Yes. It’s an issue I need to work on and have been working on.”

Even though Shane Dawson has deleted the Tweets, screenshots are forever. Check out the full apology here.

Shane Dawson may have taken to four-pages of Notes-App screenshots for his rant, but Twitter is far from impressed with his response.

Ultimately, we have to ask the question, why won’t YouTubers let this petty drama die? Well, clearly it brings a solid amount of attention to all those involved, but at what cost? Clearly, for Shane Dawson, the detriments heavily outweigh the benefits and that’s why he wants out.

For more on the beauty-guru YouTubers, make sure you check out the time that Jeffree Star released a palate called ‘Cremated’ during the coronavirus pandemic. No, we’re not joking.
