Please Explain Your Hatred For Actress Turned YouTuber Brie Larson

Her first video already has 12K dislikes.

Brie Larson is perhaps best known for playing Captain Marvel in the MCU, but now she’s adding YouTuber to her resume with the announcement of a new channel.

This week, Larson debuted her first YouTube video in which she said, “this is the place to talk about things that are important and that matter.”

“It doesn’t mean that there isn’t also silly content, that there’s ways for me to express myself personally, but there will also be deep conversations, anti-racist rhetoric, inclusive content,” she added, before previewing her chats with creators and artists including Lilly Singh, Tessa Thompson and more.

While YouTube can breed close communities of like-minded content creators, they might not be welcoming Brie Larson with open arms as much as fans would expect.

In fact, when you throw ‘Brie Larson’ into YouTube’s search function, you’re immediately met with a series of videos titled ‘why everyone hates Brie Larson’ and ‘The lies of Brie Larson: The most unlikeable person on Earth.’ To add salt to the wound, Larson’s first YouTube video already has 12,000 dislikes.

Sadly, it’s not the first time people have expressed their dislike for the award-winning actress. Earlier this year, diehard Marvel fans started a petition to get Larson to step down from her role as Captain Marvel.

The petition, titled ‘Demand Captain Marvel is Played By a Woman of Colour, Not Brie Larson!’ has had over 30,000 supporters since January and is still racking up comments this week.

“We need Brie Larson to step down from her role to prove she is an ally of social justice and ensure a gay woman of colour plays the role,” the petition states. “Let Monica, the original female and BLACK Captain Marvel instead of white-washing characters for the benefit of the straight, white men running Disney.”

There’s no doubt that Marvel has some explaining to do when it comes to racial diversity on and off screen. Just last week, Anthony Mackie AKA Falcon said, “It really bothered me that I’ve done seven Marvel movies now…every producer, every director, every stunt person, every costume designer, every PA, every single person has been white.” Hear the details below:

In 2019, Larson made a number of comments about the importance of inclusivity and diversity in the MCU, however, this just ruffled more feathers and the backlash saw people downvoting Captain Marvel on Rotten Tomatoes.

Larson isn’t scared to speak her mind – whether it’s fighting for gender equality, or against racism – and as Newsweek reports, it made her “a target for right-wing anger leading up to Captain Marvel’s release”

Despite these mixed reviews, Larson remains unbothered. When Variety asked her about comic fans rooting against her role in Captain Marvel, she said, “I don’t have time for it, you know? The things that I have extra time to really look at are, like: Am I eating healthy food? Am I drinking water? Am I meditating? Have I called my mum today?”

Later, she told Variety, “I’ve never Googled myself…I have genuinely never needed to look at the internet to explain to me who I am. I’m extremely committed to that in my day-to-day life!”

Whether you like her or not, it sounds like Brie Larson doesn’t give a hoot.
