Well that hiatus didn’t last long did it? After PewDiePie announced he was taking some much-needed time off from YouTube due to “burn out”, he came crawling back a mere month later with a video on topics like the coronavirus and Ninja’s dumb take on self-improvement.
So has PewDiePie learned anything during his time off? In a word: nope.
Speaking of the coronavirus, the GOAT team dive into the biggest talking points about the disease on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:
After talking about what he got up to during his hiatus (he went to Japan), PewDiePie immediately got back to his old racist ways by talking about the coronavirus outbreak. And when I say PewDiePie talked about the coronavirus, I mean he made some pretty racist comments about Chinese people.
The YouTuber starts off by saying he bought a bunch of face masks while in Japan before dismissively calling the coronavirus “the thingy” and “coronachan”. PewDiePie then dusted off some of his racism material by mockingly speaking some Chinese-sounding gibberish that makes no sense before putting on three face masks and says:
“You can joke about stuff right? Yeah you can joke about stuff. We’re cool.”
Sure you can joke about stuff if you’re actually saying something that’s funny and has substance. What you’re doing here is just trivialising the coronavirus and people’s suffering in a pretty racist way, PewDiePie. But hey, it’s par for the course for him.
PewDiePie’s return video also had a bit where he reacted to Ninja’s horrendously bad take on anger. Unlike all the coronavirus stuff, the YouTuber was surprisingly quiet (relatively speaking) on this, preferring to just laugh at all the memes made at Ninja’s expense.
Some top-shelf PewDiePie Ninja material would’ve been nice but I can’t imagine an idiot talking about another idiot would’ve been that enlightening.
I expected very little from PewDiePie upon his return and I’m still disappointed. It’s my fault really for expecting someone like PewDiePie could change. His whole career and life is built upon a foundation of this stuff so why would he change a winning formula, regardless of how cooked it is.
Here’s hoping PewDiePie’s return will last as long as his hiatus did and another “taking time off” video isn’t too far off in the future.
