Nick Kyrgios Is Better At Beating Grand Slam Champs On Twitter Than The Tennis Court

Hitting aces on and off the court.

Nick Kyrgios may seemingly hate his job as a tennis pro and may or may not ever win a grand slam despite his talent, but his applause-worthy Twitter performance against world no.7 Alexander Zverev and all-time-great Boris Becker about COVID-19 shows that he’s even better at throwing zingers online than he is at hitting 220 km/h serves.

Speaking of Aussie sporting legends, the GOAT team talk to Matildas players, Kyah Simon and Ellie Carpenter, on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

This latest drama involving Nick Kyrgios all began when footage of Alexander Zverev surfaced online showing him partying away just days after issuing a grovelling apology for participating in an ill-advised tennis exhibition tour that resulted in several pros getting COVID-19, including Novak Djokovic, and promising to self-isolate.

Being the type of person to speak his mind, Nick took his on-court rival to task with a scathing video response calling out Zverev for being selfish during the COVID-19 pandemic and doing the opposite of what he promised to do in his apology (which Nick notes was almost certainly written by his management team).

Everything Nick said about Zverev being selfish in partying instead of self-isolating after being exposed to COVID-19 is completely on the money and there’s no real argument to it. Unless you’re Boris Becker.

The six-time grand slam champ took to Twitter to express his disapproval of Nick Kyrgios “telling off” a “fellow sportsman/woman” in the way he did, only to receive a winning reply from Nick himself pointing out how he’s going to call out idiots for ignoring health guidelines during this COVID-19 pandemic (which Zverev definitely did).

Seemingly taken back at that barrage of common sense, Boris decided to change tactics by calling Nick a “rat” for dobbing in his fellow tennis pro. Unsurprisingly, Nick having none of it and fired back a volley that topped Boris’ own famed volleying skills.

Things quickly descended into petty schoolyard insults as Boris, who either doesn’t know when he’s beaten or is completely void of common sense, decided to change his tactics (again) by making personal attacks against Nick, tweeting out dumb comments about whether Kyrgios himself was respecting COVID-19 guidelines or wanting to see the Aussie fulfill his potential by winning a grand slam.

Nick didn’t take the bait and rightfully hit back at Boris’ pitiful attempts at changing the topic from selfish idiots not following COVID-19 health rules.

Huh. Nick Kyrgios beating some common sense into the likes of Alexander Zverev and Boris Becker on Twitter and being the unexpected voice of reason during these dark COVID-19 times.

Seems like Nick’s Twitter game has gotten even better than his tennis game during the pandemic. Who would’ve guessed that would happen at the start of 2020?
