KFC Crocs Is Not The First Food Venture Into Fashion

Looking like a snack.

If you’ve been trawling the internet over the last week, there’s a good chance you’ve come across these truly disturbing KFC chicken Crocs.

According to High Snobiety, the collab between KFC and Crocs has spawned a pair of classic clogs printed with crispy Kentucky Fried Chicken and the fast food chain’s classic red and white stripes.

But wait, there’s more. KFC’s Colonel Sanders is printed on the back and the shoes even feature a removable ‘chicken-scented’ charm.

I have no idea who asked for this hot, beautiful mess but it’s definitely set tongues wagging on social media.

Speaking of fast food, listen to how Michael Bublé recently found himself stuck (and loving life) at a Brissy Hungry Jack’s on It’s Been A Big Day For…

The KFC x Crocs collab isn’t the first time a major food brand has made its foray into the world of fashion. In fact, food and fashion collabs have been going on for years.

In 2002, Adidas collaborated with Coca-Cola on a pair of trainers for the World Cup in Korea and Japan, and in 2014, the brand joined forces with Bathing Ape on a range of camo-printed pieces.

The same year, McDonald’s featured heavily in Moschino’s Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear collection. Moschino designer Jeremy Scott, who Vogue once labelled as “fashion’s most evolved connoisseur of junk culture,” reimagined Maccas’ iconic golden arches for the collection, which was an explosion of bright red and yellow.

Then there’s Taco Bell’s collab with Forever 21, Momofuku-branded Nike sneakers, and even fine dining collabs like Gucci and Italian restaurateur Massimo Bottura.

Sometimes these fashion and food collabs are a hit and sometimes they’re a miss, but either way, there’s clearly something about consuming both together that resonates with audiences.

As for Crocs’ collab with KFC – it’s right on the money for the divisive shoe brand. Crocs have collaborated with everyone from Post Malone to Balenciaga, so the brand’s recent partnership with the fast food giant is proof they won’t be slowing down on pumping out controversial designs any time soon.
