JK Rowling's Confusing Transphobic Tweet To A Poor Kid Is A New Low, Even For Her

Hoo boy.

It’s no secret that Harry Potter author JK Rowling likes to post problematic things to Twitter every now and again, especially transphobic stuff. That sort of thing no longer shocks or surprises us as much as it once did. Having said that though, I’m pretty sure no one expected her to tweet that sort of crap to a poor kid who just wanted their artwork to be recognised by the author of Harry Potter.

The GOAT team dive right into the whole JK Rowling anti-trans debacle on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

Let’s start from the top because there’s a lot to unpack.

So JK Rowling is running a (slightly suss) competition for her new children’s book, The Ickabog, where kids can submit their artwork and the winners will have their drawings be used as illustrations for the printed edition of the book. While the Harry Potter author won’t be judging the entries, she is retweeting a lot of entries on Twitter and leaving nice messages for the kids.

That is until JK Rowling shared a tweet that started off as a compliment, only to wildly pivot into a completely unrelated comment relating to the case of Tara Wolf, a trans activist who was convicted of assaulting a transphobic radical feminist.

She quickly deleted the tweet, but the internet is quick to capture any and all offending posts on Twitter.

Now it’s pretty obvious that it was an accidental copy-and-paste job that ended poorly. After all, who hasn’t started writing a message only to accidentally paste something we didn’t mean to?

It’s something that Rowling acknowledged in a follow-up tweet, and unlike Harry Potter it’s actually something believable for once.

But where this goes completely off the rails is JK Rowling’s follow up tweets in which she doubled down on the transphobic comment.

While Rowling once again reiterated that her now-deleted tweet was an accident, she says she still stands by the transphobic comment. What’s even worse is the gall she has in claiming that it is akin to censorship and authoritarianism whenever people call her out on her bullshit.

There are literally people dying at the hands of police and not receiving any justice while the supposed leader of the free world is getting into a spat with Twitter and threatening the concept of freedom of speech because he’s a sook. Yet JK Rowling thinks she’s the one being attacked. Good frigging grief.

Welp, if you needed any more evidence that JK Rowling is full of transphobic thoughts but doesn’t like to be called out as a bigot then there you go, folks.

Condolences to the poor kid who got the original offending tweet. They probably just wanted a bit of acknowledgement from the author of Harry Potter but got a massive milkshake duck moment instead.
