Jesica Simpson is clearing the air and going through some healing with her newly published memoir and it’s such a heartwarming sight to see.
In a new interview with Katherine Schwarzenegger’s podcast, The Gift of Forgiveness, Jesica Simpson opens up about the time she confronted the woman who abused her as a child and discussed how that made her feel.
We spoke about Jessica Simpson and her memoir on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…
At the start of the year, Jessica Simpson released her memoir, Open Book, in which she publicly discussed the abuse she suffered from as a young girl for the first time in her life. She detailed that she had been abused by a girl whom she had previously considered a family friend. But now, Jessica Simpson does not want to stay silent on the abuse anymore.
In a new interview, Jessica Simpson opened up about the time when she actually confronted her abuser around eight years ago.
“I went to her and I just said, ‘I know you know what was going on and I know that you were being abused,’ because she was being abused by an older guy,” Jessica Simpson said on the podcast, “He was always there at the house as well, so he never touched me, but he would abuse her and she would come to me and do the stuff to me and so, like in so many ways I felt bad for her and I was allowing the abuse to happen.”
Jessica Simpson continued, saying: “I told her in the moment, ‘I know that you have a lot to deal with,’ and I told her that she should probably talk to someone and find a way to understand those moments and to forgive those moments and to heal from those moments.”
The Newlyweds star then opened up about how she forgave her abuser after all these years. Jessica Simpson said, “‘I just want you to know that I forgive you and I don’t really care to be around you that much ever again, but I do want you to know that I know what happened between us and I’m not gonna live in denial about it.”
“I even sent her the book and I told her that I hope that it brings healing.” – Jessica Simpson
As for the reason why Jessica Simpson confronted her abuser now? Jessica Simpson said, “I knew that if I was honest with her, it would clear my conscience.” Simpson continued, saying: “I was celibate at the time and I was on this journey to explore myself and I knew that I couldn’t move forward without letting her know that—I wasn’t going to just leave it unsaid…. I left it unsaid for far too long…”
Ultimately, we’re super happy for Jessica Simpson for getting closure on such a traumatic event. Also, we’re happy that she’s being open about confronting her abusers because hopefully, she is giving other survivors the guidance and strength to do the same, if that’s something they would like to do.
