Taika Waititi Says All Your Crazy Marvel Fan Theories Are 'Dangerous'

He's got a point.

If you’re one of the many fans out there hoping that Valkyrie and Captain Marvel will finally get together in Phase 4 or 5 of the MCU, you might want to chill out a bit – at least that’s what Taika Waititi reckons.

The Thor: Love and Thunder director has warned in a new interview that he thinks Marvel fans should keep their theories to themselves because it’s highly likely that Marvel will do the complete opposite in order to keep fans surprised about what’s coming next and to avoid fan service.

In Thor: Ragnarok, there was almost a scene confirming Valkyrie’s (Tessa Thompson) bisexuality, and since Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) sexuality has always been a bit of a question mark fans have been very vocal in the idea of the two super ladies getting together.

Thompson and Larson have also welcomed the idea that their characters get together and the directors of Captain Marvel have also said they’d like to see the characters team up at some point.

At Comic-Con earlier this year, Marvel boss Kevin Feige also confirmed Thor: Love and Thunder will feature an LGBTQ storyline. At the time, Thompson quipped that as the new “king” of Asgard, Valkyrie will need to find her queen as her first order of business and that she had some ideas on who that should be.

Once again, fans lost their minds in the hope that that person would be Captain Marvel.

Wired brought up the idea to Waititi and asked what he thought of the pairing. The director said he’d seen the chatter on Twitter, but might not want it to be part of Thor 4.

“The thing is, I think it’s dangerous for people to say too much about what they want with Marvel, because then they will tend to go the other way. You want to listen to the fans to a point. But also you don’t want to have a completely fan-made film because then it doesn’t feel like there’s any point. You want to have people surprised,” he explained.

And to be honest, it makes a lot of sense. If we got what we wanted all the time it would be kind of boring, plus we’re not screenwriters, so maybe we should leave that to the professionals…

It doesn’t mean the storyline won’t happen, it’s just a warning that should we as fans get really vocal about something, it might not happen as Marvel wants to surprise us and not just cater to the loudest voices in the room (or the Internet).

So, it doesn’t look great for Valkyrie and Captain Marvel in Thor 4, but maybe if we chill out a little bit it could happen in the future?
