Taika Waititi Is Back To Direct Thor 4 And That Answers A Big Question About Avengers: Endgame's Ending

I'm Thor with excitement but not complaining.

Let’s just cut to the chase here because it’s great news: Taika Waititi is gonna be writing and directing Thor 4.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has lured the Thor: Ragnarok director back for a second adventure with the seductive Lord God of Thunder.

Yes!

While Taika’s return to the nine realms of Asgard is more than welcome after he brought his magical touch for Ragnarok, it does mean that his upcoming live-action adaptation of Akira is taking a backseat indefinitely due to “script development” issues.

But hey, that’s a win-win for all: we’re getting a new Thor movie and Taika will get more time to make sure that his Akira adaptation will be just perfect (or good enough so the fanboys don’t get too pissy).

As for what we know about Thor 4, Chris Hemsworth is likely coming back as Thor and, uh, that’s basically it. No clue if Tessa Thompson will be back as Valkyrie (aka the Queen of Asgard), if Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster is still having his orgies, or if Korg is still on the Fortnite train.

Yes. Yes you are.

That being said, the announcement of Taika writing and directing Thor 4 does answer a question we have about Thor’s ending in Avengers: Endgame.

For those who need a refresher, Bro Thor decided to go hang out with the Guardians of the Galaxy for a bit after giving up the Asgard throne to Valkyrie, which sparked questions of whether Thor is now part of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or if he’ll bail on them for another solo adventure.

With Thor 4‘s announcement it seems like Thor will indeed ditch the GOTG at some point, though it remains to be seen how that goes down, especially since the God of Thunder and Rocket Raccoon are basically BFFs at this point.

We probably won’t get any answers for quite some time but that’s just fine by me because Taika Waititi is back and that’s really all that matters.

Today I Learned: Thanos' Original Reason For Snapping Half The Universe Away In Avengers Is Incredibly Dumb

If you thought his motivation in the films was dumb, you haven't seen anything yet.

Looking back at the whole Thanos saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that it’s all over, it probably goes without saying that the Mad Titan’s ecological motivation for snapping away half the universe is pretty dumb.

But if you thought Thanos’ motivation in the films was ridiculous, it doesn’t hold a candle to his incredibly stupid reason in the comic books.

Infinity Gauntlet + ???? + Snappening = uh, profit?

In the Infinity Gauntlet comic arc which the films are based on, Thanos goes through the same journey of getting the Infinity Stones and Infinity Gauntlet so he can wipe out half the universe.

But his motivation for that isn’t because of some misguided plan to free up resources for living beings. The reason Thanos dusted half the universe is because he wants to bone Death.

In Thanos’ defence, Death looks less like the Grim Reaper and more like an actual woman in the comics than what you’re probably imagining right now. Anyway, his plan to get the Infinity Gauntlet so he can snap away half the universe was essentially some kind of mating ritual so he can prove his love to the female personification of Death.

So in short, the Mad Titan’s original motivation for the Snappening was less of the “saving the universe in my own way” kind and more of the “lovesick teenager trying to impress his crush” sort.

To Thanos’ chagrin though, Death still rejects him after he gets the Infinity Gauntlet and does the snap because she (it?) considers him to now be too powerful to be a mate. No matter how you look at it, getting the “it’s not you it’s me” excuse from Death cuts deep.

Just to throw a pile of salt in Thanos’ heartbroken wound, Death wounds up getting freaky with another Marvel character: Deadpool. Yeah. Weirdest love triangle ever.

Jealous that the Merc with a Mouth stole his, uh, girl, Thanos decides to curse Deadpool with immortality, which is why the red-suited buffoon can never die in the comics. Sounds exactly like the mature response you’d get from an omnipotent being with the emotional development of a 14-year-old.

So yes, Thamos’ motivations for the Snappening in the films was dumb. But compared to his original reason of wanting Death to accept him as a lover in the comics, it almost seems like the plan of a genius mastermind.

It’s perhaps for the best that Marvel decided to go down the misguided ecological route instead of the horny, emo teenager who literally flirts with Death option.

A Stranger Things Star May Have Joined The Marvel Cinematic Universe To Turn Things Upside Down

Strange things are happening in the MCU.

With Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe done and dusted (pun intended) now that Spider-Man: Far From Home is out in the world, the big question on the minds of every Marvel fan is “what’s next?”

There’s a hero hole that needs to be filled in the post-Blip MCU and it appears that Marvel are plugging the gap by getting stars like Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and Angelina Jolie to star in the (still unconfirmed) Eternals movie.

But perhaps sensing that they need something to really get fans buzzing for future films now that a bunch of OG stars are gone, Marvel have apparently decided to hire a Stranger Things star.

Say whaaaat?!

Variety reports that Marvel has big plans for San Diego Comic Con and buried right in there is an unassuming tidbit that the comic book movie behemoth has nabbed none other than Millie Bobby Brown to join The Eternals.

As for who she’ll play and all that stuff, we know about as much as Madden’s brooding cousin (not half-brother) from Game of Thrones: nothing.

Now take this with some massive grains of salt since Marvel has yet to confirm anything about The Eternals or any casting reports. For all we know there could actually be no Eternals movie and it was all a big bait and switch for an X-Men or Fantastic Four reboot featuring a cameo from Godzilla.

Look, Marvel will figure out a way to make that work, okay? They always do.

Nonetheless, Marvel are pulling a smart move here by jumping on the Stranger Things buzz while it’s still hot. Either way, We’ll find out sooner or later whether Eleven will turn things Upside Down in MCU or if it’s just a rumour that’ll disappear like the victims of the Blip.
