Hilary Duff has revealed exactly what to expect from the Lizzie McGuire reboot and it honestly sounds so good.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Hilary explained that Lizzie is living in New York City after having moved away from home for her career.
“Her life is framed pretty perfectly, she has her dream job… she’s an apprentice to an interior designer who’s a pretty big deal. She has a gorgeous fiancé who is this chef at a cool SoHo restaurant.
“She has a cute little apartment in Brooklyn and everything is going her way and she’s celebrating her 30th birthday with her friends.”
“Obviously nothing is going to go that perfectly the whole series. She gets some pretty big news at the end of the first episode.”
Most importantly, we’ll still have animated Lizzie telling us everything that’s going through her head.
“You’re going to get to experience animated Lizzie as the 13-year-old self that’s still that loud voice inside her head saying all the things that adult Lizzie would like to be saying out loud.
“And that was really important for me to keep her at 13, because I think that’s what’s so endearing and I think everybody relates to that character.”
After being pushed for more answers she added, “You know what, I can’t give too much away I have to play it coy, but there’s a lot of surprises in store and I think everyone’s dreams are going to be fulfilled by going on the journey of the show and we have a lot of surprises in store.”
In another interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hilary hinted that Lizzie might be forced to leave her life in New York, “She’s been living in New York, and I’m not sure how long she’s going to stay there, but that’s going to be all a part of the journey.”
When asked about the chances of Gordo, Miranda, Ethan and Kate making an appearance on the show, Hilary said, “The chances are high! I can’t tell you too much, but I think that people are going to be very surprised and excited.”
Speaking of people making an appearance on the show – it sounds like Lizzo will show up!
Also, by the sounds of it, Lizzie is going to have the wardrobe she could have only dreamed of at 13.
“She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget… She’s, like, a little cooler. She can kind of, like, keep it together a little better than she used to,” the actress told Variety.
Hilary also told Entertainment Weekly why she thought it was so important to bring the character back now.
“She was everybody’s best friend… She was there for such pivotal moments in their preteen life. Entering your 30s is a really big deal… I think it’s just the right time for her to step back in and to have her go along with you in your 30s.
“All of the fun times and all of the big monumental moments that you’re faced with, I just thought that was such opportunity there for her to be grown up and for her to be there for women again.”
The show has yet to start filming, so it’s unclear when episodes will be released, but one thing’s for certain: we cannot wait!
