McKamey Manor, the ‘world’s scariest haunted house‘, in Summertown, Tennessee is being accused of being a glorified torture chamber with the actors allowed to physically harm those who take part.
In case you don’t believe how extreme this ‘haunted house‘ is, participants are asked to sign a 40-page waiver, undergo a sports fitness test, provide a doctor’s note, a safe word, proof they have medical insurance and a background check.
The waiver, shared by Facebook user Bethany Mcpherson, reveals that participants agree to the fact “a nail may pierce their hand”, “their hand may be smashed with tools”, and that they may “have a plastic bag on their face which could possibly cause suffocation, blackouts etc, and participants will not hold MM responsible or libel”.
Mcpherson shared the waiver, writing, “LETS KEEP EVERYBODY SAFE. If you’re thinking about going to the McKamey Manor aka ‘the worlds scariest haunted house’ that’s been shared around, just read these, this isn’t a haunted house, this is a torture chamber where they’re somehow legally allowed to torture people. Almost 100% of people who go end up with PTSD and need intense therapy. They’re allowed to whatever they want to you.”
One of the points on the waiver reads, “Participant fully understands and agrees that once participant enters MM there is no quitting unless serious physical or psychological injury is present.”
Other points suggest participants’ nails will be removed from their nail beds, they might be given medication to induce hallucinations, they might even end up having their teeth “extracted without Novocain” and “they may be fish hooked, which may inadvertently cause rippage to the mouth area”. Oh and they “will be participating in various medieval torture devices such as knife throwing while strapped to a spinning wheel”.
What kind of person thinks of these things?!
It’s so terrifying that anyone who makes it through the 10-hour ordeal will be awarded $20,000, not one person has ever earned that money.
Mcpherson also shared a Facebook comment that read, “They’ve balded people not by shaving, but by ripping hair out. They’ve pulled teeth and fingernails out. They have a history of r*pe and sodomy. They make you eat rotten food and if you puke, they make you eat that too.
“They don’t obey the safe word. They break bones. The man literally hires past violent criminals with both assault and sexual crimes. And they start the torture WHILE you’re reading the [waiver] so you can’t complete it.
“They also have a history of taking your allergies and using it AGAINST you. And the money is if you pass 10+ hours.”
McKamey Manor has a YouTube channel where they show viewers what the experience is like, here’s one he makes everyone watch if they want to do the tour:
The ‘haunted house’ featured on Netflix’s Dark Tourist hosted by David Farrier where he told viewers, “You really don’t want to do [this],” adding people flock to be tortured and terrorised “just for the fun of it”.
On the show, Farrier took part in the experience and spoke to owner Russ McKamey, who doesn’t charge people to take part, but does ask for a bag of dog food.
Farrier asked, “Is he a showman or psychopath?” To which McKamey responded, “I am an entertainer, a comedian, and this is nothing but showbiz to me. I just love entertaining.”
News.Com.Au reports there’s a waitlist of over 24,000 people who want to visit the Manor.
At the time the show was shot McKamey said he’d never had a participant die, but one person did suffer a heart attack in 2008.
In the episode, Farrier joins one of McKamey’s victims, but after being blindfolded and having a metal piece put into their mouths to keep them open, he calls it quits.
“I felt so terrified I couldn’t even think straight. Russ’s techniques are horrifically effective,” he said.
The cameras weren’t allowed to follow the victim who continued on to the Manor, however, a body cam showed him being dunked violently into ice cold water and being told to hold his breath for 30 seconds. After a few rounds of this, he also quit.
When he exited the manor he told the cameras, “Don’t come here.”
