Emilia Clarke Is Defending Daenerys' Reaction To Hearing Jon Snow's Secret And We Totally Get It

"We’re up for the same promotion and I’ve been working for it for my entire existence.”

After a year of waiting, Game Of Thrones fans have finally been treated to Daenerys’ reaction to finding out Jon Snow is, in fact, her nephew and, understandably, it didn’t go all that well.

Jon appeared to be quite devastated as he told his new love the news he is the son of her brother Rhaegar, and while you might assume she’d get upset about that fact, the Dragon Queen was visibly more upset about his superior claim to the Iron Throne.

“If it were true, it would make you the last male heir of House Targaryen. You’d have a claim to the Iron Throne,” she tells him.

Correction: he’d have a better claim.

And while it might not seem like the first reaction we’d have to finding out you’ve been sleeping with your nephew, Emilia Clarke has explained the brutal response and it actually makes a lot of sense.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, she said that Dany focusing on the threat to her claim makes sense given everything she’s been through.

“The related thing, to her, is so normal… She could have easily married her brother. It’s not a thing. It’s a thing for Jon, but let’s just forget about that. The main thing is we’re up for the same promotion and I’ve been working for it for my entire existence.”

At this point in the show Dany’s been working her whole life to reclaim her inheritance and she’s closer than ever to obtaining it.

“This is my whole existence… Since birth! Dany literally was brought into this world going: RUN! These f***ers [in Westeros] have f***ed everything up. Now it’s, ‘You’re our only hope.’ There’s so much she’s taken on in her duty in life to rectify. There’s so much she’s seen and witnessed and been through and lost and suffered and hurt to get here… and Jon doesn’t even want it!”

OK, that makes total sense.

The episode’s writer Bryan Cogman told the publication that Emilia and Kit Harington nailed the “very difficult” scene.

“What really upsets Jon is that he’s a blood relative to the woman he’s in love with.”

“Jon is taken aback when essentially the first thing she says is acknowledging that he has a claim to the Iron Throne. Kit and Emilia play it beautifully. It’s a very difficult scene to pull off; so much has to go on behind the eyes.”

Sadly, we didn’t get to see any more of their interaction because they heard the horn announcing that the Army of the Dead were at the gates of Winterfell.

Kit also spoke to Entertainment Weekly last week after the first episode of season eight where he finds out his true parentage and said what he loves about Jon is “his purity”.

“He doesn’t f***ing want [the Iron Throne]. He doesn’t want that f***ing information. He doesn’t want to know. He has no ambition for the throne. He’s never wanted that.

“The end of the world might be coming soon but at least he’s in love with somebody and knows who he is, and then comes this sledgehammer… If Jon could go back in time and say: ‘Whatever you’re about to say, don’t tell me,’ he would. He’d happily be in ignorance.”

If only! Now, if you need us we’ll be mentally preparing for episode three…

Fans Believe Brienne And Podrick Will Die In The Next Episode Of GoT Thanks To These Cryptic Insta Posts

This is not OK.

WARNING: Contains spoilers for Game Of Thrones season eight, episode two.

It’s a very emotional time on Game Of Thrones and now Daniel Portman, who plays Podrick, and Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne, have shared very concerning messages on Instagram that have fans thinking they’re going to die in the next episode.

The pair shared the same photo with super emotional captions, leaving a lot of fans upset.

Daniel wrote, “My dear, dear friend. A beautiful companion on this journey and the kindest, most committed, hardworking person I’ve had the pleasure of doing any of the crazy stuff we do with.

“The show might be over for us, but the love remains, always. My friend.”

Gwendoline added, “OH MY POD! @danportman Spending the last five seasons with the absolutely wonderfully talented Daniel Podrick Portmanteau has been a POD-SEND!

“I love you and I miss you and I can’t wait to watch you bloom through the rest of your career! IF YOU WERE A BAG, YOU’D BE A BAG-FOR-LIFE.”

Of course, fans went mental about that “The show might be over for us” comment with some thinking it was a spoiler for episode two.

One fan wrote, “Wait, whaaaaat?! Is this a bloody spoiler for tonight?! Am I keeping my knackered carcass awake until 2am and you two are going to die and I accidentally saw it on Insta 2hrs before the start?!”

Thankfully we know the pair make it safely through episode two, but next week’s episode is set to be crazy as the White Walkers close in on Winterfell.

Another fan added, “DOES THIS MEAN YOU DIE NEXT WEEK BECAUSE WTF.”

Other theories suggest that since we’ve finally seen Brienne smile after getting knighted it must mean she’s going to die next week.

And this one just broke my damn heart…

Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever be emotionally prepared for episode three.

We’re So Weirded Out By GoT Sex Scenes We’re Now Frothing On Old-School Chemistry

Jaime and Brienne forever!

WARNING: Some spoilers for season eight, episode two ahead!

It’s been eight long years that we’ve been watching Game of Thrones and in that time we’ve seen a lot of sex scenes. Like, way more than we needed.

So much so, that it’s gotten to a point where all we want to see is some good old-fashioned chemistry.

While Daenerys and Jon Snow might be the big [incestuous] love story of the show, the most satisfying relationship in our opinion is between Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth.

Even A Song Of Ice And Fire author George R.R. Martin has a soft for the pairing, writes Vanity Fair.

In episode two of season eight, Brienne is made a knight due to the respect Jaime has for her, even though women aren’t technically meant to be knights.

It’s Jaime who gives her the knighthood and it’s as though they were completely alone in the room when it happened – their chemistry is seriously intense.

This scene could be the closest they’ll get to expressing their affection for each other.

What’s important to note here as well, is that these two first met in season two, so fans have been waiting a long time for something to happen between them.

The pair grow to respect each other and come to each other’s defense more than once. It’s Brienne’s idea of honour that slowly draws Jaime to be the knight he once was.

In comparison to their relationship, which has slowly been building, Jon and Daenerys seem to be on fast forward.

In an episode where everyone is incredibly horny due to the impending war – it was episode 69 after all – we only want more of that sweet chemistry between Brienne and Jaime.

Gwendoline Christie put it very well in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2013:

“Brienne is a virgin and Jamie has only slept with his sister, so . . . [Laughs]. We’re looking at two highly unusual individuals. I don’t think that anyone genuinely can predict the way in which their relationship will go in any regard.

“Genuine and true love is so rare that when you encounter it in any form, it’s a wonderful thing, to be utterly cherished in whatever form it takes.

“We all want to see the impossible actually happen, to see these two extraordinary characters reach that amazing stage. Everyone’s a sucker for some love and romance and whatever that may bring.”

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, meanwhile, was recently asked by Huffington Post about whether Brienne was the love of Jaime’s life and he played coy and said, “Ohhh, well, who knows?”

“I don’t, well, I know how it ends but … no, I can’t comment on that.”

He then went on to add, “I don’t think [the GoT writers ] could’ve done a better job at finishing this story.”

“To me, it was very satisfying but also very surprising and all the things that I was hoping for. It still made sense… Here, they’ve done a really, really good job.”

We can’t wait to see where this relationship goes!
