You Definitely Want Michelle Obama Organising Your Graduation Party

BTS and Lady Gaga are just a few on the line-up.

Honestly, could Michelle Obama be any cooler?

If you’ve missed your graduation because of COVID-19 concerns then have no fear, YouTube’s “Dear Class of 2020” is here. The event will give you a graduation ceremony bigger and better than your OG one was ever going to be. Joining the party is BTS, Lady Gaga and most importantly, a commencement address delivered by Michelle Obama and her husband,  Barack.

This virtual graduation ceremony, which will flick between graduation-themed musical performances as well as inspirational speeches, will premiere on Saturday the June 6th, on YouTube Originals and YouTube’s Learn At Home website.

Speaking of things to do in COVID-19 isolation, we spoke about baking on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

It is actually Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative that will host the first hour of the celebration, so we have that to look forward to. The Reach Higher initiative is just one of the partners involved with this event with others including Born This Way Foundation, Malala Fund,  Ideas United and NBC’s “Today Show.”

Speakers at this event include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Malala Yousafzai, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates. Literally go off.

BTS and other musicians will be hitting up the virtual after-party with performances, so it’s time to whip out your grad hat and pretend you’re graduating all over again. Also, there will also be special appearances from Kelly Rowland, Kerry Washington, Alicia Keys, Chloe & Halle, Zendaya and a whole bunch of YouTubers (we mean, why not? It is on YouTube afterall).

In a powerful statement made to social media, Michelle Obama said, “To the (Class of 2020), I know how hard you all have worked to make it to graduation. You’ve put in long hours studying. You’ve thrown yourself into extracurricular activities and after-school jobs. And you’ve done everything you can to be there for your friends through it all. Some of you will be the first in your families to graduate from high school or college, making this occasion all the more special. And I know that none of you imagined you would be closing this chapter of your life through a computer or phone screen. But I still want to make sure you still get the celebration you deserve.” What a literal queen. You can read the full post here:

Michelle Obama continued, saying: “That’s why, through my (Reach Higher) Initiative, I’m working with (YouTube) Originals to host a special virtual graduation for you on June 6th. Whether you’re graduating from high school, college, or any other kind of school––we want you, your family, and all of your loved ones to be a part of this celebration. And we want to do this right for all of you, so I’ll be inviting some very special guests—including (Barack Obama) —to help ring in this momentous day.”
