Why Diehard Edward Cullen Fans May Be Disappointed By The New 'Twilight' Book

Calling all Twi-hards.

It’s been over a decade since the Twilight books hit the shelves of Dymocks, Borders and Kinokuniya, so you’d think the hype would’ve died down by now.

You’d think that the Team Jacob vs Team Edward debate would be settled, you’d think we’d be done discussing Jacob’s imprinting on Renesmee Cullen and you’d think we’d be done anxiously waiting for the next book to come out, but you’d be wrong. Because once a Twi-hard, always a Twi-hard.

We spoke about ‘Twilight’ on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

And as a Twi-hard, we feel it’s important to let you know that a new book has just dropped, but be warned, you may be disappointed. Stephenie Meyer has just released the heavily anticipated Midnight Sun novel, the latest in the Twilight Saga. This book is actually a retelling of the first Twilight novel but from the first-person perspective of Edward instead of Bella’s. And, while many of us are excited by this release, Stephenie Meyer wants to warn us that we may be disappointed by the new book.

In an interview with US Weekly, Stephenie Meyer explains why. “I detailed quite a bit of Edward’s history in Twilight, so writing this book was less about creating a past for him than it was about fleshing out some of that past and seeing his familial relationships in action,” Stephenie Meyer said in a new interview. “As an experience, it’s about looking at the world through a vampire’s eyes instead of a human’s.”

Stephenie Meyer details that her readers will encounter all the old events from the first book (like Edward Cullen and Bella Swan falling in love, Bella finding out Edward’s a vampire and of course, the damn love triangle with Jacob Black). However, Stephenie Meyer says fans may be surprised when reading the novel.

“I think some readers might be taken aback by this version of Edward,” Stephenie Meyer said, dropping a bombshell on us, ever so nonchalantly. “If they wanted someone suave and optimistic, they will not enjoy this troubled soul. I prefer the more complicated, flawed version, but I suppose that’s unsurprising because it’s how I always saw him.” Hmmmm, interesting, well we’re just going to read it to find out if we’re on board or not.

Also, if you thought that Stephenie Meyer was going to struggle with getting into a male character’s tone of voice, she’s here to let you know she had no trouble with it. “I know Edward so well by now that his gender didn’t make anything more difficult,” Stephenie Meyer said. “ I finished the rough draft in November of 2019. … I imagine this probably took me longer than any other book. It was slow going!”
