Thor Trying To Kiss Valkyrie In This Deleted 'Endgame' Scene Out-Cringes Michael Scott

Discomfort has a new definition.

I would’ve thought we’d run out of Endgame stuff to talk about by now but then this little Michael Scott-esque nugget of a deleted scene featuring Thor and Valkyrie drops and sparks up my interest all over again.

Speaking of Michael Scott levels of cringe, the GOAT team talks about Michael Buble’s Hungry Jacks obsession on It’s Been A Big Day For… below:

At the end of Endgame, Tony Stark is dead (and isn’t coming back), Thanos is gone, and Steve Rogers is living his best life in the past. As for Thor, he just wants to go do his own thing alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy without the burden of being tied down as King of Asgard so he decides to give the throne to Valkyrie.

The deleted scene in question extends Thor’s goodbye a little bit longer. After Rocket Raccoon calls Thor “airbag” (another poor jab at Thor’s weight), Valkyrie puts her hand on the God of Thunder’s arm to wish him good luck.

Thor being Thor, he completely misreads the situation and leans in for a kiss, only to be immediately rejected. It’s something straight out of the Michael Scott awkward cringe comedy handbook and it’s just so uncomfortable to watch (but not in a bad way) since we know Valkyrie and Thor are more friends than romantic interests.

While the scene wasn’t really necessary for Endgame‘s story or it’s three-hour run time, it’s a nice little moment that highlights Thor and Valkyrie’s relationship, which is helped massively by Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson’s chemistry.

It was really lovely to see how Valkyrie didn’t scold Thor about misreading her gesture and it was equally lovely to see him sheepishly laughing it off before both acknowledge it was a misunderstanding that won’t make their friendship weird. Well, any weirder than it already is.

One can’t help but think what would’ve happen between Thor and Valkyrie had Marvel went ahead with the planned romantic storyline for the characters, but it is more than likely that that development would’ve paled in comparison to what we eventually got.

While we didn’t get a Michael Scott-esque moment between Thor and Valkyrie in Endgame, perhaps Taika Waititi has something up his sleeve when the characters return in Thor: Love And Thunder.
