It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

This Viral 'Scrubs' Clip Will Teach You Everything About Coronavirus Social Distancing

Just another reason why 'Scrubs' is an amazing show.

With the coronavirus deemed a global pandemic, countries around the world are taking drastic measures to slow the spread of the disease, such as telling people to practice social distancing. Now there are probably people wondering “what the hell is social distancing” in the context of this whole coronavirus pandemic, but don’t worry as there’s a clip from Scrubs that’s going around that’ll get you up to speed on the term’s definition.

Speaking of coronavirus social distancing, the GOAT team talk about the ways to stay engaged while in quarantine on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

Due to all the social distancing people are doing due to the coronavirus, many people have turned to TV shows as a way to pass the time and the memorably heartbreaking (and educational) ‘My Cabbage’ episode from Scrubs have caught the eye of a lot of people.

The episode depicts how quickly infection can spread in a hospital due to inadvertent physical contact and wastes no time in giving viewers a quick lesson on the importance of social distancing when a disease (like coronavirus) is going around.

As for the heartbreaking bit for those who haven’t seen the episode, the context is that old lady at the end of the Scrubs is about to go home after a long stay at the hospital but she ultimately dies due to being infected by disease, which really hammers home the importance on knowing the definition of and practicing social distancing while the coronavirus is still at large.

This clip quickly caught everyone’s attention and began to spread like wildfire when it was shared on Twitter. It then got a bigger boost when Scrubs star Zach Braff, his fellow castmates, and the show’s creator all shared it as a way to help inform people.

Now there’s more to social distancing than just that viral Scrubs clip though. Due to how easily coronavirus can spread due to actions we do everyday without realising, NSW Health says we should also do things like:

  • Avoiding crowds and mass gatherings
  • Avoiding small gatherings in enclosed spaces
  • Keep a distance of 1.5 metres between other people
  • Avoiding shaking hands, hugging and kissing
  • Avoiding visits to vulnerable people, such as the elderly, infants and people with compromised immune systems.

We’ll get through this coronavirus pandemic soon, so in the meantime please wash your hands, practice social distancing, and if you’re stuck at home wondering what to do, maybe give Scrubs another rewatch.
