'The Simpsons' Predicted Statue Beheadings, And What Kind Of Sorcery Is This?

In a 1990 episode of the show.

From devastating bushfires to flooding, a global pandemic and widespread protests against racism – 2020 has already been a crazy year. Amidst all the crises, one of the most mind-boggling epiphanies is the way The Simpsons has ‘predicted’ so many of these events.

Early this year, eagle-eyed fans noticed that ‘Marge in Chains,’ a 1993 episode of The Simpsons, featured eerie similarities to the tragic death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant and the coronavirus crisis. Hear about Bryant’s legacy below:

Fast-forward to this week and it looks like The Simpsons has ‘predicted’ yet another world event. During Black Lives Matter protests on Tuesday night, a statue of Christopher Columbus was beheaded in Boston’s North End.

After news of the damaged Columbus statue made headlines, fans quickly pointed out that a similar beheading occurred in ‘The Telltale Head’, an episode of The Simpsons from 1990.

In The Simpsons episode, Bart cuts the head off the statue of Springfield’s founder, Jebediah Springfield in an effort to impress three older kids he admires.

The Christopher Columbus statue in Boston is one of many that has been recently destroyed as an ongoing campaign against symbols of racism and colonialism. According to The Guardian, activists around the world have organised petitions to have monuments “tainted by racism or slavery” removed, destroyed and even set on fire.

Unlike these real life events, Bart regrets beheading the statue and apologises to an angry mob before replacing its head.

There’s no doubt that the similarities between The Simpsons and many of these world events are uncanny, but there are major differences. Despite all the conspiracy theories, it appears to be one big coincidence and doesn’t accurately reflect the pain, anger and sadness emanating from these protests.
