The Pokemon Of The Year Vote Is Here To Restart Your Childhood Arguments

Everyone who doesn't vote for Shinx is wrong.

I made a mistake talking about the Pokemon of the Year Vote in the GOAT office today because I’ve learned something horrifying about my friends here. I’ve learned that there are genuinely people out in the world that believe Muk is the best Pokemon. Those people are objectively wrong of course, because we live in a world with Shinx in it.

I love them.

The age old argument about which pocket monster is the best is about to be reignited all over again, because The Pokemon Company has launched their official search for the Pokemon of the Year. It’s part of the celebrations for World Pokemon Day – February 27th, of course – and you have until February 14th to get your votes in.

All you have to go is Google ‘Pokemon Vote,’ and a screen will come up that gives you a bunch of categories to choose from. The categories are sorted by region, so your options are Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova / Unys / Unima / Einall / Teselia, Kalos, Alola, and Galar, etc.

You can vote for a Pokemon once per category, and once per day. After the votes close, all the data will be added up and we’ll finally know the official answer.

It’s not the first time that people have attempted to settle this argument. Last year, a Reddit poll found that Charizard was the Pokemon of the Year, which I’m not entirely mad about. Coming in second and third were Gengar and Arcanine which surprised me a bit more. Again though, I’ve decided that this poll was rigged and wrong because Shinx didn’t win.

So before you head to the Pokemon Vote page, bust out your old Pokemon cards, and not just because they can be worth tons these days. Get them back out because you’re about to spend far too long pouring over them and picking your fave by trying to remember which ones consistently won you all sorts of primary school clout.
