Selena Gomez Already Has Stiff Competition With Her New Cooking Show

Seems to be the "in" thing these days.

COVID-19 isolation has caused a sharp uptick in home cooking, especially in the “celebrities cooking at come” content arena, and now Selena Gomez is taking things to a whole new level after landing a new cooking show with HBO Max.

Speaking of celebrities cooking at home, the GOAT team dive into the iso baking phenomenon on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

According to a statement from HBO Max, Selena Gomez will be the star of her very own cooking show, which is untitled at the time of writing and penciled in for a 10-episode run in the second half of 2020 some time.

Filmed in her own kitchen (unsurprisingly), the hook of this untitled Selena Gomez cooking show will see her trying her hand at cooking various recipes while getting pro tips (and presumably constructive criticism) from professional chefs who will be on call via video calls.

Selena herself sounds pretty damn excited about the project, saying in a totally-not-PR-written statement: “I’ve always been very vocal about my love of food. I think I’ve been asked hundreds of times in interviews if I had another career, what would I do and I’ve answered that it would be fun to be a chef. I definitely don’t have formal training though! Like many of us while being home I find myself cooking more and experimenting in the kitchen.”

New Selena Gomez content is always welcome here at GOAT, whether it’s a cooking show, music or even just her COVID-19 quarantine playlist. But this HBO show has drawn mixed feelings because a) we have no idea how good of a cook she is, and b) she’s coming into a very crowded “celebrities cooking at home” circle and already has an uphill battle in terms of competition.

We already have the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill baking up a storm almost every day, Jennifer Garner and Natalie Portman sharing recipes with people, and just a whole host of celebrities showing off their home cooking chops (or lack of them).

And that’s not even including the many, many quality YouTube cooking channels.

So yeah, Selena Gomez and her cooking show are about to enter a crowded market.

But regardless of how well (or not well) Selena Gomez can cook, her HBO cooking show will certainly help provide some entertainment during isolation and she’ll likely have a banging music playlist playing in the background so it’ll be a nice, relaxed experience at the very least.
