Oi, Cut The Hate For Melissa From 'Masterchef' Cos Australia Needs Her

She's 11/10.

We’re only a few weeks into Masterchef Australia and Melissa has already established herself as an icon.

Speaking of Masterchef Australia, we spoke about this season’s premiere on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

This season of Masterchef Australia is unlike any that we’ve seen before.

Not only have we met and fallen in love with all the contestants prior to the season beginning, but the judges are brand-spanking new. When it was announced that George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan and Matt Preston were not coming back for another season, Australia was worried. And that worry continued as Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo were announced as the new three. Australia hadn’t seen these people before, Aussies didn’t know how they’d talk, act and most importantly relate to each other and the contestants.

But, for the most part, these new judges have been hits with the Masterchef audience. Sure the dynamic is different but it’s a good kind of different, one that’s exciting to watch and get used to. Having said this, there are a few haters trolling social media who have some choice words to say about the new judges, especially Melissa.

Just a quick scroll through the Masterchef hashtag on Twitter and Masterchef discussion groups on Facebook will have you flabbergasted at the hate you see. We’re not sure if it’s rooted in racism or sexism, but we have to say Melissa Leong is genuinely the best thing to happen to that Masterchef kitchen in a very long time. Her vibrance and energy bring smiles to every viewer watching the telly as the evening rolls around on a weeknight.

Ultimately, you don’t need to look further than last night’s episode to see that Melissa from Masterchef has solidified herself as a core personality, one that is essential to the show going forward. Let’s break this down.

Firstly, she’s the queen of relatability. Diving into that Deliveroo bag in search of her dinner was an absolute mood and we forever thank her for this GIF.

Also, she’s just so fun to watch, we love to see her in other contexts that aren’t the Masterchef kitchen.

And let’s talk about the fact that she really ties the entire show together. Real talk, Jock and Andy need Melissa Leong to survive.

All hail Melissa Leong, the Masterchef Australia Queen.
