Now You Can't Ignore How Awkward These Celeb Interviews On 'Ellen' Were

We should’ve seen it from the start.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. In the past few months, it seems like the world has turned their back on Ellen DeGeneres. But, looking at these Ellen Show interviews, should we have seen it coming?

We spoke about Ellen on today’s episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

In between calling George W. Bush a friend and comparing COVID-19 quarantine to jail, Ellen DeGeneres’ relatability is going awol. On top of this, her nightmarish behaviour on set (and her crappy shifting-the-blame response) has surprised quite a lot of the true Ellen fans. But, perhaps if we look back at some of her interviews, we can see that her relatability and her kindness has been gone for quite some time now. Let’s take a look back at some of the most awkward celeb interviews on The Ellen Show.

Jessica Simpson

Oh God, thinking about this interview makes us feel sick. When Ellen announced that she would be interviewing Jessica Simpson, no one thought it would be this much of a trainwreck. As it turns out, for Jessica Simpson’s first Ellen appearance not-pregnant, the star came on drunk.

“I can’t even watch the interview… It was a weak moment for me and I wasn’t in the right place. I had started a spiral and I couldn’t catch up with myself, and that was with alcohol,” Jessica Simpson said about the interview. Watch the clip, full of awkward fourth-wall breaks and panic-mode Ellen here.

Katy Perry

We understand that Ellen would go through so many interviews a week, but to forget a key piece on information about one of the biggest singers in the world… Now that’s just bad.

In this interview, Ellen brought on international pop-sensation, Katy Perry, to play a game called ‘Will You Perry Me?’ After Katy Perry yelled, “Do I have to get married again?” Ellen responds with “You were never married.” Except, Katy Perry was married and Ellen gave her wedding presents when she had previously been on the show. Awkward.

Taylor Swift

Ooft, it’s not every day that you see a celebrity go on The Ellen Show and scream because of how uncomfortable the situation is, but hey Taylor Swift did it. For this interview, we’re taking your mind back to the early 2010s when Ellen not only incessantly pestered Taylor Swift about whether or not she was dating Zac Efron, but also plastered all of Taylor Swift’s exes on a slideshow behind her. “Stop it, stop it, stop. It makes me feel so bad about myself” Taylor Swift screamed.

Mariah Carey

Out of all the interviews on this list, Ellen’s chat with Mariah is the hardest one to watch. In 2008, Ellen brought Mariah Carey onto her show after rumours that the star was pregnant had been flying around. In this chat, the talk-show host seemingly stopped at nothing to get Mariah to confess that she was pregnant. But thankfully, Mariah Carey didn’t give in to peer pressure when alcohol was dangled in front of her.

It turns out that Mariah Carey was indeed pregnant during this interview but sadly suffered a miscarriage days after. As a result of this interview, Mariah Carey was put in a position where she had to announce her miscarriage to the world.

Dakota Johnson

For the final pick on this list, we’re talking about the time Dakota Johnson treated all of us to a captivating performance on our tv screens. And no, we’re not talking about Susperia

Dakota Johnson’s appearance on The Ellen Show will forever go down in history as one of the most awkward and most cringe interviews to date. Her shamelessness in calling out Ellen’s performativity on her own platform has left all of us shook and some of us stanning.

We spoke about how Ellen DeGeneres’ The Ellen Show was a bastion of misconduct, not happiness over here.
