Nicki Minaj Hates The One Nicki Minaj Song We'll Never Get Out Of Heads

"I hate the song."

There are some songs that – no matter how hard we try – we will always love, we will always know all the lyrics to, and we will never ever be able to get out of our heads.

One of those songs is most definitely Nicki Minaj’s 2012 banger ‘Starships.’

That’s why I was devastated to learn today that Minaj actually doesn’t like it all. In fact, she doesn’t like 2014’s ‘Anaconda’ or 2010’s ‘Your Love,’ either!

Speaking about her discography in a video interview posted to Twitter by @PopCrave, Minaj said “I wish I never recorded ‘Anaconda,’” despite liking the video.

“My first solo song on Billboard was ‘Your Love.’ To this day, I like the video but I hate the song. I could go on and on,” she said.

“I hate ‘Starships,’” she added. “I was like, ‘Why did I do that?’ I really think that every time I hear it.”

Hear that? That’s the sound of a million hearts breaking around the world.

It’s difficult to come to terms with the fact that Nicki Minaj has fallen out of love with the lyrics ‘STARSHIPS WERE MEANT TO FLYYYY’ that we all scream with passion at every karaoke party.

However, it’s not uncommon for an artist to get sick of their own songs. In a recent interview with WSJ magazine, Selena Gomez said her 2013 track ‘Come and Get It’ is “so not my personality.”

“The lyrics are, ‘When you’re ready, come and get it.’ I would never say that!”

Even Ariana Grande has denounced her own music. In an interview with Radio Disney Grande said she hates her song ‘Put Your Hearts Up’ “with a burning passion of a thousand suns.”

Whether we like it or not, artists have the right to evolve, which means they’re not always going to love their former phases as much as we might.

The good news is, just because Nicki Minaj doesn’t like her own songs doesn’t mean we can’t keep picking it for our karaoke sessions.
