MAFS' Amanda And Tash Could Never Fully Represent All LGBTQ People

They weren't right for each other and that's okay.

Last night, Married At First Sight’s Tash and Amanda left the experiment, the second couple this season to do so. While their exit got heated in parts, we can’t help but feel saddened at this year’s queer couple leaving.

Ultimately, the two of them just weren’t right for each other. But, impressively they were able to find a lesson learnt out of this experiment and leave on a positive note. “I’ve learnt a lot from this experiment about myself…” said Amanda, as Tash followed it up with “I’m glad. I’ve learnt a lot as well, so have I, a lot”.

The tears started to roll when Tash read out her letter towards Amanda, detailing her uninterrupted thoughts on the relationship.

She said: “Amanda, I don’t think either of us could have foreseen exactly what has transpired over the last few weeks. I want to thank you for having a good heart, for sharing the story of your upbringing with me, for taking my hands at the wedding when I genuinely was about to melt into the ground with nerves. Thank you for making an effort with my family and friends at the wedding. Thank you for not judging me on my past. Thank you for being quiet while I spoke while I know you didn’t want to. Thank you for giving this your best shot. All I want is for us to hold nothing but kindness towards each other, regardless of everything. And I really wish, everything you and want and deserve. And I really mean that”.

And while they both decided to write “leave”, they didn’t leave without discussing the queer community. “And I’ll leave with these parting words” Amanda started her exiting speech, “Unfortunately, this relationship has not been a representation of what gay relationships are really like. There are a lot of good functioning gay couples out there. And I’m sorry that this was not- This didn’t do the gay community justice this time around… I think Married At First Sight were hoping that we were really going to work and we were really gonna do justice for the gay community at large. Um, I know a lot of good gay functioning couples and they can see it as we’re just another couple and we just didn’t work and it was that simple”. Tash also added on, “Exactly, and I fully support that and believe it.”

While this exit speech wasn’t at all necessary, it was a lovely note to leave on. Amanda and Tash were never going to represent the entire queer community because it is literally impossible to do so. In fact, if they showcased anything, it’s that queer couples and heterosexual couples go through the same romantic experiences. There’s kindness, there’s romance and yes, there’s fighting.

The two said that they’re sad because they “didn’t do the gay community justice this time around”, but at the end of the day, there was a positive relationship that unfolded. Tash and Amanda achieved personal growth, gained some sort of a friendship and did it all with the pressures of reality tv. Sure, there was the unfortunate “bra” incident, but we imagine, after this conclusion, they’ve reflected a lot on their experiences and have learnt from their mistakes.

No, Married at First Sight’s Tash and Amanda didn’t have to make this speech, but we’re happy they did. Hopefully, this showed any homophobic viewers that queer couples are exactly like heterosexual couples in many different ways. We’re sad that we won’t get to see these two every night, but we’re happy that they can now leave the experiment and have positive lives on their own.

If you haven’t done your MAFS homework, make sure you catch up on previous lessons. So far, we’ve learnt about gaslightingwhy adults still need supervision, to never force chemistry, to not make a fool of yourself when there are cameras aroundhow to meet people in a socially acceptable way and also how crappy friends can ruin a relationship.

SZA Is Done With Photoshoots And She Doesn’t Owe You An Explanation

Just one day after her shoot with Normani and Megan Thee Stallion went viral.

Yesterday, Normani, Megan Thee Stallion and SZA broke the internet because of a photoshoot that they did together. The three icons did a Rolling Stone cover in which they wore matching black, leather outfits.

The shoot quickly went viral after being posted onto Instagram, with the comments section ranging from racist garbage to praise for each individual artist.

Now, R&B singer SZA has taken to Twitter to say she doesn’t want to do any more photoshoots, interviews or music videos. She said; “Not doing any videos Interviews or photos for the rest of my life lol don’t ask” followed with a thumbs-up emoji. This immediately sent her fanbase into a frenzy.

She followed it up with another Tweet, clarifying that her feelings weren’t directed at either Megan Thee Stallion or Normani, saying: “S/o (Shoutout to) Normani and meg (though). My sisters who I love very much and respect deeply. Honoured to be apart of ANYTHING (with) the two of those BLACK QUEENS.”

When fans questioned what potentially brought her to that conclusion, she responded in another Tweet. She cited her inner thoughts as the reason for this decision, saying: “My anxiety has .03% to do (with) outside opinion. I was bullied all through high school I could care less. It’s my OWN THOUGHTS THAT HIT DIFFERENT.”

While it would be extremely disappointing if we never got music videos from SZA again, we must respect her decision to do so. More often than not, fans are under the impression that they understand and know the ins-and-outs of celebrities, purely based on their music output and interviews. However, many aren’t exposed to the less-glamourous side of celebrity life as that’s often kept hidden. As a result, it’s best for everyone to stay out of it, unlike this Twitter user who questioned her anxiety.

@NavyGalore tweeted SZA saying: “Damn … I love you but why it (does it) seem like all the new celebs got anxiety out the a**, what’s going on??” To which, SZA replied, arguing that it wasn’t a new thing. “‘Celebs’ (have) been out here, dying of addiction and depression for DECADES”, she said. Be glad (people) are TALKING to each other and sharing, rather than hiding.”

After this Tweet, SZA shared a photo of her in the studio, captioning it “Where I belong.”

While it would be sad if fans got less SZA content (in the form of photos, videos and interviews), ultimately it doesn’t matter. SZA’s health and mental health ultimately come first and if fans can’t handle it, they can leave. As long as she’s okay, that’s all that matters.
