It's No Surprise The 'Friends' Cast Is Returning When You Know What They're Getting Paid

"Oh. My. God."

It’s been more than 15 years since Friends‘ final episode aired, however, the show’s popularity only increased in the years since with its availability on Netflix in the US and Stan in Australia.

While we’ve been hearing rumours of a reunion episode for years now, it’s now finally official with Matthew Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow all confirming their involvement.

The cast is set to return for an unscripted special with HBO Max, who will own the streaming rights to the show in the States.

And they’re getting paid a silly amount of money for it.

Sources have told Variety that each of the six stars will receive at least $2.5 million for participating in the reunion special.

It almost sounds like chump change when you consider the fact that the cast earns around $20 million each a year in royalties from the show yearly according to a report by USA Today.

The reunion will mark the first time all six Friends cast members will be together publicly since the show ended.

Variety reports the special will air exclusively on HBO Max and will appear in May when the streaming service launches.

Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max and President of TBS, TNT, and truTV said in a statement, “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire ‘Friends’ library.”

He added, “I became aware of ‘Friends’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”

Friends executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane will executive produce the special which will be directed by Ben Winston. The cast will also serve as executive producers.

The special will be recorded at the Stage 24 soundstage at the Warner Bros. Studio Lot where Friends was originally shot.

It will be a celebration of the series and not a scripted episode, which, honestly, sounds perfect.

'To All The Boys' Star Lana Condor Was Seriously Close To Landing A Star Wars Role

"That’s an example of one door closes and another opens."

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before star Lana Condor has revealed she was very close to starring in Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi as Rose Tico before she even won her iconic role as Lara Jean Covey in the Netflix movie series.

Condor got so far into the process that she even had a screen test with John Boyega, who plays Finn in the movies, to see what their chemistry would be like.

Speaking with StyleCaster, the actress said, “This was before The Force Awakens came out, and they were already reading for the sequel. He was eating Sugarfish, and I had a meeting to just get to know him.

“I remember looking at him and being like, ‘He has no idea what’s about to happen to his life. He is going to be the lead in Star Wars. That is so cool.’ And then he blew up overnight.”

Finn and Rose spend much of The Last Jedi together so it would have been very important to know that the actors would have good chemistry on screen.

The role eventually went to Kelly Marie Tran, but Condor says she is quite positive about the whole thing, saying, “Had I done Star Wars, I wouldn’t have been able to do To All the Boys, so that’s an example of one door closes and another opens.”

Sadly, however, Tran received so much hate online for her role as Rose Tico she was forced to quit social media and enter therapy.

Following this backlash, the character only received one minute and 16 seconds of screen time in The Rise of Skywalker. While many fans were upset about the fact she didn’t appear in the film for long enough, Tran said to MTV’s Josh Horowitz she was “really grateful” to be part of the franchise.

“Last Jedi was my first movie, you know? So I think I’m finally starting to realize that when you’re in something of that calibre, there’s so many people working to make something out of love. And no matter what you do, there’s always going to be people that aren’t happy with that.

“But I think the best lesson that I’ve learned is just to have fun and be present in the moment. So I’m really grateful that I got to be a part of it,” she explained on the Oscars red carpet.

A very classy response!
