Instagram Is Threatening Your Late Night TikTok Binge With A Better Option

This could change everything.

TikTok has long-been a source of quality entertainment for us, so it’s a no brainer that a competitor would try and come for its gig, but the fact that the competitor in question is Instagram, well that’s extremely interesting.

We spoke about all of this on today’s episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

TikTok has been dominating our late-night binge viewing for a while now. We’ve been laughing at boys who can’t pronounce gnocchi, we’ve been captivated by the Hype House and all their drama, hell we’ve even tried to learn all the dances. And as we’ve been caught up in TikTok and all its glory, it seems that competitors were slowly but surely learning our likes and dislikes before gearing up to release their own version.

Introducing: Instagram Reels, a new Instagram feature that allows users to create short-form edited videos with audio and music, aka Facebook’s answer to TikTok.

According to a press release, Instagram Reels will “take creativity to the next level with new video editing tools, timers, countdowns, speed controls, AR effects, and music library.” Instagram Reels, similarly to TikTok’s ‘For You’ page will also allow its users to reach a global audience through its newly designed Explore page. Instagram Reels is now available to use in Australia with an updated app.

Now, we should note that this isn’t the first time Instagram has copied a competitor before. Let’s cast your mind back to 2016 when Snapchat was at the peak of popularity. In August of that year, Instagram launched its insta-stories feature, which was eerily close to the function of its competitor app. And what do you know, insta-stories boomed at the demise of their competitor. We’re not saying the same thing is going to happen with Instagram and TikTok, but let’s just say, history has a way of repeating itself.

We also spoke about TikTok and all its features on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

We should also mention that Instagram Reels has already been blessed with the star-studded launch. While musicians (like Little Mix and Drake) are often premiering music through the TikTok app, Instagram has seemingly taken notice and nabbed Miley Cyrus for the launch of Reels. Miley Cyrus has teased her comeback to the music industry with the intro of her upcoming song available to use on Reels.

With feed posts, Reels, Stories, Live & IGTV, is there anything Instagram hasn’t tapped into yet?
