COVID Isolation Has Australia Lusting Over The New Masterchef Judges

11/10.

Masterchef Australia has made a return that’s bigger and brighter than ever before. The Channel 10 cooking show has been a staple of Australian tv for the past decade and given last night’s episode, it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.

We spoke about the Masterchef season 12 premiere on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

While there were concerns that the show wouldn’t live up to the hype since George Calombaris, Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan had left the series, the season premiere of Masterchef: Back To Win has proved otherwise.

Last night’s episode of Masterchef: Back To Win raked in 1.23 million viewers, which is the highest amount of viewers the series has drawn in for an opening since 2015. This was largely thanks to the curious Aussies who wanted to check out the brand new judges, Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen.

And well, it looks like they filled the shoes of their predecessors perfectly because Twitter was living for the new judges – and not just for their opinions.

Having said this, there was one judge who garnered the most attention and that was Jock Zonfrillo. Jock’s a celebrity chef who happens to own his own restaurant in Adelaide, ‘Orana’. But, if you hopped onto Twitter last night, you would think this guy was just a model because boy, was Australia thirsty.

One Twitter user even compared Jock Zonfrillo to Simon Baker’s, most iconic character, The Mentalist. And yeah, we see it.

Nevertheless, the contestants were also shown some love. Hayden was definitely a favourite and not necessarily because of his food.

Also, there was Callum’s glow up from boy-next-door to complete and literal daddy.

Heck, the show was so hot, we had to question if we were watching the right Channel 10 program.

So kudos to Masterchef for one hell of a season opener, you can count us in for the rest of the season – and that’s not just because we don’t have anything else to do in COVID-19 isolation!
