‘Cats’ Finally Wins An Award, But It’s For All The Wrong Reasons

This was not the award show to sweep.

The Golden Raspberry Awards is an award show like no other. Originating in the ‘80s, this parody award show honours the worst performances of the cinematic year. Safe to say, a Razzie award is not an award you’d want to win. While the ceremony itself was cancelled, due to coronavirus concerns, the Golden Raspberry Awards have still managed to announce their winners to the world, but this time, via press release. Love that.

The Razzies hitting ‘Publish’ on their press release like…

The Razzies, like many other events, was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. To learn about other event cancellations, make sure you check out this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

As expected, Cats copped it. Like, very much copped it.

Same Jason Derulo, same.

Universal Pictures’ movie-musical, with CGI so bad it forced people to leave the movie theatre, has won six awards in total. These include Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actor (for James Corden) and Worst Supporting Actress (for Rebel Wilson).

Was this really the worst performance? Yes, yes it was.

Not to mention, Cats also won Worst On-Screen Combo (for any two half-feline/half-human hairballs in Cats), Worst Screenplay and Worst Director (for Tom Hooper). Yikes. It should be noted that “Jason Derulo & his CGI-neutered bulge” was also up for Worst On-Screen Combo, but lost to the entire Cats cast.

James Cordon’s reaction to the news (I imagine).

Ah, jeez. Look, to be honest, can you blame them? We’re talking about the movie that literally saw people opt for recreational drugs just to see if the flick was at all possible to enjoy. Not to mention, even furries (who we would have thought would have backed this movie) were against the film. Also, we’re talking about a movie that wasn’t even backed by the production company that released it

Universal turning its back on Cats like…

It hasn’t exactly been a great week for Universal. Last week saw one of the worst weeks at the box-office in around 20-years, and as a result, the movie production company has announced video-on-demand downloads for some of their in-theatre flicks in the United States. There’s no telling if Cats is going to be one of those downloads, but we can’t imagine a world where it would be.

Me with movies tickets to literally any other movie in existence.

In terms of the other wards, the Worst Remake award went to “Rambo: Last Blood”, John Travolta won Worst Actor (for The Fanatic & Trading Paint), Hilary Duff won Worst Actress (for The Haunting of Sharon Tate) and Eddie Murphy won the Razzie Redeemer Award (for Dolemite Is My Name).

Congrats Eddie Murphy, you’ve left the Razzie club!

We spoke about ‘Cats’ star, Taylor Swift, on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

At the end of the day, at least Cats won some awards! We can’t help but wonder if Cats will become one of those movies that’s so bad, it’s randomly good… Kind of like Tommy Wiseau’s The Room… We can only hope.
