Prepare For Your Heart To Be Trodden All Over With This 'Last Christmas' Twist

We seriously hope this isn't true.

We were so excited to finally see the trailer for Last Christmas when it was released last week, but now a fan theory suggesting Henry Golding’s character is actually dead has gone viral and has us feeling pretty damn sad. I was promised a happy Christmas rom-com, not a heartbreaking movie!

Last Christmas stars Emilia Clarke as Kate, a woman who works in a Christmas shop and can’t really get her life together following a serious illness a year or so earlier. However, she keeps bumping into Tom (Golding’s character), who seems pretty perfect – he even volunteers at a homeless shelter – and she decides to change her life and do more good for others.

However, since the trailer’s release, people can’t help but notice that Tom is wearing basically the same outfit in every shot of the trailer – a tan jacket and a grey jumper underneath, sometimes the jacket comes off but he’s mostly in the same outfit.

However, I watched the trailer once more and noticed there are times when he’s wearing a dark shirt and cardigan with the coat like this:

So, I’m not sure if that theory checks out exactly.

One other thing that people noticed was that no one else other than Kate seems to interact with Tom directly.

Another thing is that Kate seems to be sharing a lot about her life, like the fact she “almost died”, but he doesn’t really share much about his life and only tries to help her improve her life. At one point she even calls him a “saint”.

Some people even think Kate had a heart transplant and Tom was the person who gave her his heart. Ya know, like the song?

Emma Thompson who stars in the flick also wrote the movie and was asked to write it based on George Michael’s song ‘Last Christmas’. According to Deadline, at CinemaCon in April she revealed it was the specific lyrics, “Last Christmas, I gave you my heart,” that inspired her to write the movie.

The YouTube description for the trailer might support the theory as well, it reads, “As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart.”

So, prepare to have your heart broken.

Watch the trailer again and make up your mind on the theory:
